Can This Really Happen?

Recommended Posts

 I was just wondering if having the band could screw around with my menstrual-cycle??? My periods have ALWAYS been regular... every 28 days. I had my first period since being banded on July 19, so naturally my next period should have been last Saturday (Aug 16). Well, I didn't get my period until yesterday . I thought for sure I was preggo!!! B'cause that's the only time I've ever been late is when I was preggo!! I know I got my period so I should just chill, but I'm never just late without a reason, and I'm just wondering why I was on time last month (I could've understood it a lil bit better then because of all of the liquid/mushie food causing sudden weight-loss), but now I am late? If anybody else has had this same thing happen, please let me know! Will this continue? Will I go back to normal? I'm kinda freaking out because I am not on any birth control and I don't plan on being on any for quite a while.

You probably ovulated later than usual before your last period due to your restricted diet in the month prior. We stop ovulating when we don't eat enough (many models never get their periods because they don't eat enough to ovulate).

I'm sure it was just a one time thing and that you'll get back to your normal cycle moving forward.

My GYN told me it could take 3 months to get back to a normal period after surgery. My periods have been super light since surgery. I have still started monthly, but that's because I'm on the pill. Now, instead of 4-5 days, they are only lasting 2-3.

Even though the surgery wasn't as extreme as others, it's a major change for the body. My father (a retired OBGYN) suggested that I stop taking the pill about 2 months prior to my surgery to reduce the risks of blood clots. Plus he also said he went to a semiar and a doctor said that the pills affect is less if your BMI is over 35) I've been on the pill since I was 17. And now 21 years later, I'm off of it.I don't know if it's the not taking the pill or from my surgery, but my every 28 days is now every 6 weeks. I would like to stay off of it until about January, then start fresh again. It's not like I have a big sex life right now anyway. :(

The dramatic change in your eating is probably what made you late. Losing weight rapidly can also make your periods come closer together, since estrogen is stored in body fat, and as you burn it off, that estrogen is released into your bloodstream. I've only had my band four weeks, and have a Mirena so I don't get periods anyway. But the last time I lost a large amount of weight and wasn't on hormonal birth control was about 12 years ago, and I was getting my period every three weeks. Now that SUCKED. :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
