How do you feel you are doing at living the Word of Wisdom as a banded person?

I'm referring mainly to the nutritional guidance, more than the harmful substances part, though feel free to answer the question any way you'd like.

I believe that the word of wisdom is talking about red meat - not so much chicken and fish. I'm just guessing.

I think the whole point of the WOW is to keep our bodies healthy in order to gain greater spiritual guidance and keep our souls healthy. I think that despite eating more meat, I will be better able to follow the WOW after I'm banded because my overall health will be better. I wont overeat junkfood and hopefully my cholesterol will go down.

What is the word of wisdom. I have been banded for almost 2 years and haven't heard that term before even though I spent hours on this forum for the 1st year.

The Word of Wisdom is the commandment that Mormons follow which talk about keeping our bodies healthy. This is why Mormons dont drink alcohol, coffee, do drugs, etc., but it also discusses that we should eat heathly grains and fruits and veggies while they're in season and that we should eat meat sparingly. The last point is why this has been discussed on this Latter-Day Saint (Mormon) sub-forum: that we should be eating meat sparingly per the Word of Wisdom, but with being banded there is a need to eat so much protien. I hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
