what foods are you choosing for the last time?

Hi, I am being rebanded with your group.

Here is a bit of advice. What you miss is that big bite into something thick, hamburger, sub sandwiches, thick pizzas etc.

But do your last meal a couple nights before your surgery. When you have surgery your digestive track slows down immensely, then on top of it you will probably be given liquid codeine for pain relief. This adds to Constipation.

Right now

to maintain our current weights we put down a lot of food. Literally what we put in one end pushs more out the other, large quantities. I think probably the average over weight person goes at least 1 a day. You will be amazed how little you will go after lapband. If you eat large quantities before your surgery you will be sluggish in moving it through, and also they blow up your stomach with gas to put on the lapband so it will be harder to move the gas out of your system.

I didn't have what you would call a last supper or something I knew I wouldn't be able to have after surgery. However, my husband and I went to the State fair and I had what I wanted. The day prior to me starting my pre op diet I had my nephew over and he wanted meatloaf, cabbage and mac & cheese, I made it for him and the was the last time I ate something decent. I would have much rather went to a steak house, but I didn't. I'm looking to achieve the prize of weight loss and it's going to be a way of life. I wish everyone well and just keep in mind the goal you want to achieve. :)

i ate everything that i craved for a week...i did not think i was going overboard too much...but i gained 5 lbs...this is my 3rd day on clear liquids...7 more to go...hopefully i will be able to make it....but it was good for me to purge my head of cravings before...i don't really crave anything now and feel like i can make it...hopefully...i am sure i won't be perfect, i just have to always get right back on track if i mess up...has to be a way of life not a diet....good luck to everyone.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
