Hey. I'm a 22 year old mommy. I go in for my psych eval on 8/27 and surgeon's consult the next day...I guess I'm going to have to self pay. My hubby's in the army and all of the hospitals here wont take TriCare because they don't payout enough or something...oh well it'll be worth it! I've heard a lot of people talking about how painful it is after the surgery...I'm nervous...excited, but nervous. I just wanted to hear some input from other people in my position....the good and the bad. I can't wait to get this going  I am currently 5'3'', 257 pounds, BMI of 45.5...keeping my chubby fingers crossed  lol. Thank you in advance for anything and everything.

Everyone's experience is different, but I experienced no pain at all.....never even had a gas pain. I was at the hospital from 10 a.m. to 2:30 pm then made a 2 hr car ride home. I was beginning to wonder if they really did anything to me while I was asleep but they did something that worked - I lost 160 lbs. Now I have a pretty easy life....I wasn't having to go to work or clean house or chase a baby like you do and I'm sure that makes a lot of difference.....you should really plan to have someone around to help you out with the baby and your chores so you can heal well and be able to spend some time preparing your foods correctly. I know that some people have a more difficult experience, but in reading the boards for 3 years now it seems most LB patients are back in full swing in less than a week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
