Hello All:

I have started my journey into the insurance "approval". I have been reading about the wonderful Cigna requirements & am currently going through the 1st stages of getting approved past the "pre-existing" stage.

Here's where I am at:

Seminar - July 8

Consult - July 28

Psychology/Dietician - Aug 5

1st Claim submitted - Aug 8

Claim Pended for "pre-existing" - Aug 18

Submitted Credible coverage from other ins - Aug 22

ok- now that I have all of that out of the way!! LOL

Anyways- I have been trying to mentally prepare myself what is to come after the surgery. I have even written down some great suggestions. HOWEVER, in the meantime I have been eating like there's no tomorrow!! I feel like I am waiting for the ins to say yes & then the Dr to say - here's your pre-op diet..

Does this make sense??

Thanks for reading..

Jenn

What does pre existing mean? I also have CIGNA and have yet to file, I am still trying get all of the paper work in from various Dr's. My psyc eval was on Aug 13 and she still has not sent the report to the surgeon. I am also waiting on my PCP to send the last three years of medical records to the surgeons office. If I had waited till the surgeons office requested them it seems that I would never get the surgery. I would have thought that they would start requesting things after my first visit so they would be ready to submitt it when I was done testing, but that was not the case. Oh well good luck and me know what else CIGNA has to say. Thanks

Welcome jenz! I'm in TX too!

It sounds like you are on your way to bandland! It is such an exciting time. It's so easy to get a little out of control before surgery...treating every meal like your last. I didn't have a pre-op diet, so I really did get out of hand for a few days. If you can, try to shift your thinking before surgery. Also, if you drink a lot of caffeine, try to taper off before surgery. Otherwise, the withdrawal headaches can be miserable.

Good luck!

Emilie-

I just got my ins (Cigna) July 1. I started my new job back in March. So, they are requesting pre-existing condition info from my other ins - if I had any. I do currently have ins )Aetna) thru my husbands - however - the procedure is an exclusive. Meaning they won't even bother consider it. I guess it just all depends on the actual policy that our wonderful employers pick for us!! lol

Also, I went to my own PCP to gather my own med history. 1) I was rather curious of how much weight I have gained & co-morbidities that I had in the past 5 yrs!! Oh ya - I have gained weight!! 215 to now a wonderful 275. Co-Morbities - I got'em!! lol

My birthday is in March- So I am hoping to have it done before/by then. This is for the "new me" =)

Aunt Lucy-

Yes- it feels like I am treating each meal like it's my last!! Darn it. Of all things, I have been drinking Dr Pepper more than usual as well.

Of course with the society of "Have it now" is lingering in my mind. Before I found out that my Cigna ins will pay for it - with many leaps & bounds to meet. I had gotten approved for credit to have it self paid. So, I could present it to my dr to do it "now" but- if I could save money.. I am going to go through the loops to have Cigna process it.

=)

Jen,

Hey I have talked to the insurance company about a million times and they have not asked for anything from other insurance companies, but I also have no co-morbity issues just plain old fat. I have a BMI over 40 and it has been that high for five years. Do you need to do the supervised diet and wherer in Texas are you?

When I read posts like these, it makes me so glad that I went to Mexico for my surgery. I called, made an appointment, had the surgery. But, it is a double-edged sword, because I have had a tough time because the weight isn't coming off as fast as others who do have a doctor who has followed them through surgery and fills.

Just wanted to say hi to 'y'all' from Texas. I'm new here and looking forward to meeting others. Anyone else get banded by Dr. Adam Smith?

Hi, I had issues with Cigna and I hope they don't give you the run around. I was a self pay with Dr. Carter in Arlington/Hurst. I think he is a great doc if you get to pick..but I am questioning why he placed the port right under my left breast. Makes wearing a bra tough! I'm sure he has his reasons though! Good luck on your journey!

Hello first time. I am just getting ready for submitting to issurance bcbs. 6 month diet, psch, doctor letter of medical need and waiting

for sleep study. I have seen my surgeon and his fine staff. I am scared and realize my fate is in the hand of an issurance company. Who does not know me or see me. I am doing with a guy from work who I told about this. He is also going thru this. My husband has been there the whole time. God gave me a great man. I thank him for him everyday. Please think of me in your prayers for approval. Thanks Mona

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
