I wonder what the long term affects would be if someone had erosion but never lost restriction and refused to have the band removed?

It really would depend on the individual, and how the erosion progressed. Some people would be in severe, life-threatening situations early on in their erosions. Other people haven't had any problems except for loss of restriction, and upon examination the band has been completely absorbed into the stomach and is lying there, useless.

Eventually, though, in all cases the person would eventually have to submit to having the band removed, as even in the "best" scenario, once the band is fully inside the stomach, the inner bladder of the band is eventually breached by stomach acids and bacteria travels up the tube and to the port, causing infection.

As I understand it, anyway...

DEATH!!! Because of the leakage of the stomach content. NEVER let someone talk you into keeping your band if they suspect erosion or even have diagnosed erosion.

Donali's right. I'm already uncomfortable with the amount of personal medical detail that has been shared here without the participation of the person in question. I am assuming someone who knows Diane would be able to say that she wouldn't mind all this info being posted about her. But there are privacy laws and if she were NOT on board with all this, well, I don't want to go there.

In any event, I'm glad to hear she's on the mend. What a horrifying series of events. :)

AFter speaking with my source they respectfully asked that all further posts regarding Diane be only in support and prayers of her recovery. No future posts should contain any personal or medical data. Due to that request I have deleted my previous posts regarding that type of info. I suggest we all (especially myself) remember this in future posts.

I apologize for posting without first asking if it was OK. Thanks Alex for reminding us of that fact.

Thanks, ladies. :)

Wow, really? What a thought. [shiver...] I guess the tube extend out through a hole in the stomach in such a case? Sounds like something NOT to be left alone, indeed.

Hi, has anyone heard how Diane is doing? (no specifics but just if she's continuing to improve)

I am praying for her recovery. I thought the world of her when I met her

back in March!

Rhonda

I just read on a Yahoo board that she is home and recovering nicely. Hopefully she will come here and post soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
