First, I love the idea of a significant tatt. I say something with your surgery date or even just the number from your goal weight. No one but you would know what that meant.

My question to you all that already have tattoos and have already been banded, did they change after weight loss? I have several but one that I concerned about goes across the expanse of my rear.:confused2: I never should have gotten that on my huge rear, but when I went to the first place and the artist actually told me that he couldn't handle doing my art anywhere because of my size (it was like a challenge to me)! I went and found an artist that would not only do my ink but across my, well, butt. I am so scared that it is going to look horrid after I lose some weight (not that it doesn't look horrid now:embaressed_smile:).

My husband has been very supportive during this whole process, but when I said I wanted a tattoo of a downward arrow the number of pounds I lost and another downward arrow, he was not all for it. He said he would follow me around with a sharpie and write is on my hip everytime it started to wash off. Guess I will just keep working on him since I have a way to go to goal.

This is the tattoo that I got a couple of months after my surgery.

It's all about direction.....choosing the right one and then staying the course.

I love that! Would you be terribly upset if I "borrow" that design?

great thread! I have been all about getting a tattoo for the past couple of weeks, I just don't know what I want. I have a small dolphin on my ankle now and i've never wanted another one untill recently. I need to acknowledge this time in my life, not only have i lost 75lbs, I also just finished my master's degree, and I'm turning 30 in 8 days. I'll keep checking in for ideas, I know I want it on my lower back, just not sure what it will be.

This is a cool thread.

I am constantly waffling on whether or not I want a tattoo. I am very committment phobic. I have decided on a piercing instead, so I can change it, or remove it and let it close up.

I really admire you guys for having the conviction to make a decision. I love reading all about the designs you have/want.

Perhaps I too will be inspired.

I already had 3 before I got my surgery.. 2 of them being pretty large. When I lost 85 pounds I got a pin-up girl on my back to celebrate! I have lost 124 now, with about 52 or so to go.. so when all is said and done I am absolutely getting something amazing I just don't know what or where I am putting it!

I'm 49, so old enough to be a grandma, but I'm not one yet. Niether of my sons ages 20 and 23 have a tat, but the older one wants one. I told them the other day that I was thinking about getting one on my hip. You should have seen the looks on their faces!!! These kids were stunned when I started wearing toe rings about 8 years ago...... They don't really "know" me very well....... Anyway, when asked, I told them I was thinking along the lines of a fairy, a wizard or a dragonfly, and they were dumbfounded. My husband would have a cow. He's very conservative. But the more I think about it, the more I think I should when I reach my goal weight. This is a milestone in my life, and something I worked REALLy hard for. I think a commemorative tat would be very appropriate. My new body, my new badge of courage!!!

I like the idea of something symbolizing courage, nice one! Very nice compass rose tat Harleygirl, such vivid colors!

Freedom, change, courage, direction, surely we can come up with some awesome ideas from those!

I got a new tattoo about 4 months ago. I have gone through a lot in the last 5 years and it is my way of commemorating how far I have come. 5 years ago I lost my husband to cancer and since then having to do things on my own, gaining more self confidence, a new love of my life and getting the lapband. Is it 5 butterflies the smallest (on my foot) has duller colors signifying where I started and the largest has the brightest colors. I do have to say that it is larger than I had wanted at first but now I love it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
