anyone have any problems with isopure??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Wednesday the 20th so that would make me 3 days post op. The only Protein Drink I am allowed to have for the first week is Isopure. I noticed it makes me extremley bloated and even more gassy then I already am. I am also drinking chicken broth and sugar free jellos. None of these make me as bloated as I get when I drink this. Has anyone had the same experience with this drink? I don't want to drink it anymore because the gas and bloating is TERRIBLE! I am just wondering where I can get the much needed Protein from, if I stop this drink. Of course my doctors office is closed today, so I have to wait until Monday before I can talk to them. This isn't considered an emergency so I don't want to call them. I am not sure if I should just continue with it eventhough its making me really uncomfortable...or if I should just hold out until Monday :confused2:. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi-

Congrats on your banding. I was banded on the 19th. I have been having the 100% whey Protein mix from GNC. You mix it with Water and each scoop has 21g of Protein. I don't get a bloated feeling from it. I was given a few choices from the nutritionist about the Protein drinks and this was on the list as well as Isopure but this was much cheaper. They come in many flavors and they don't taste too bad at all. I haven't had any trouble at all with gas so I feel bad for you about that. Good Luck on your journey.

I ended up on soy Protein Drinks from ESAdvantage. I ended up allergic to whey Protein after the surgery. I also got GNC's 25 gram no flavor Protein Powder to put in Soups. It adds a bit of "bulk" to cream soups and protein. Good luck. Gas and bloating are very common after surgery. It's been only a few days so relax and walk and take some GAS X tabs they help a lot. I was so bloated I was 223 after surgery, and was 211 the day of surgery. Mostly gas and fluids. Took a week for them to go down. My stomach is still a bit bloated.

Thanks so much for your feedback. On my sheet of Clear liquids for week 1 it specifies that I can't have any powder. I guess its not considered a clear liquid to them because its still gritty? I dunno I think I might just skip it tomorrow and wait until my appointment on Monday for an alternative Protein Drink.

K,

Try New Whey liquid Protein...it's at GNC. They are in the bullets and have 42g of Protein in it. They taste much better than Isopure and I found it easier to get down. I did Water it down (1/2 Water & 1/2 New Whey) and sipped throughout the day. Don't try and get it all down at once. Also, remember that the bloating may also be from the surgery itself. Hope you are doing well otherwise!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
