11 days after having the band put in

Recommended Posts

I had the band surgery August 12 and am still on the liquid diet. Will begin thinking about the pureed this next week.

I have lost 31 pounds (29 getting ready for the surgery, following the liquid and clear diet pre-op.)

I can already wear some clothes I was unable to wear last spring which is really encouraging.

Pain.....my shoulders ached. They said it was from the gas they use to inflate your adomen during surgery. The first couple days, I used the nice liquid pain med they gave me. But I haven't needed it much since.

I have been using Unjury Protein and Atkins shakes...not too bad.

So, I hope I have begun a journey to good health.

Sounds like you're both on the right track!

I was supposed to get the band 8/11 but will get it 8/29 so I'm just a few weeks behind you!

I had my band on the 16th and feeling pretty good. The first few days were hard for me but only because I had a hernia repaired. Every day gets better. The entire full week all I have had is Protein shakes and today I will start on more liquids. I am nervous about eating anything that is not liquids. I don't know what I am going to feel and don't want to damage my band.

I am giving this my all and will follow the diet to a T.

Good luck and congrats.

About half my body weight. It seems like an impossible goal, so I am focusing on ten pounds at a time. I am half-way to my next ten pound goal. I went to Water aerobics for the first time after surgery yesterday. It felt great. And because it is at a Wellness Center connected to the hospital, I didn't feel conspicuous. There were lots of old folks there and lots of non-bikini bodies.

I ate some canned chicken yesterday. I chewed and chewed until it was a mushy texture and had no problem. It tasted very good.

I still like the Protein Shakes, but have tried a couple of the Atkins Protein Bars and had no problem. Good luck.

I had my band put in on Aug 19th.It was been a week and am doing great. I will not lie, the first few days were as bad as when I had my gallbladder taken out, but by day 3 I was up and running again.I have been nervous about starting mushy foods and will I feel different?

WOW sounds like everyone is doing great. I love the comment about focusing on 10 pounds at a time. I have found my greatest success to set mini monthly goals. I might set a goal of 8 pounds this month and then 7 or 9 next month. I usually get very close to them and feel as if I am accomplishing something. I was banded on 4/23 and I have lost 46 pounds. All my weight was post op since I didn't have a preop diet and only 1 week of liquids post surgery.

You may have plateaus here and there I know I do but just keep on track and you will find success. Great to see everyone supporting one another

Hi Bandetta!!

would you mind telling me what the liquid and clear diet was for your pre-op??? :confused2: i am getting banded in 3 weeks and doctor just said go on a low-fat diet, but no advice as to what to eat!. ... I really don't want my surgery to be refused because of a fatty liver, and noticed that you did incredibly well on your pre-op!

Well Done!!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
