omgggggggggggim gonna miss diet coke come monday

That was my morning caffeine for years. I have to say that I cheated and had one a few days before my surgery - after almost 2 weeks without one. It didn't taste nearly as good as I remembered.

ROFLAMO...I had several "last" meals and hurricanes and other health problems caused me to have several surgery dates...I know I gained at least 8 lbs during the three months they kept changing the dates on me.

I was a diet coke (caff free) addict, I drank nothing but for years and years. At least 6 a day and always two with dinner, I was so sure that I was going to die without them...Nope! So far haven't really missed them as much as I was sure I would. Now the no drinking with dinner is a bit tough but easy to solve...if it's not on the table by my plate I don't drink. The people I've seen who say they slip up I don't understand...if it's not next to the plate and you have to get up and fix it...hoooow is this "slipping" up?

YEP! Diet Coke. But I would rather be wearing smaller than a size 16. That would be SO much better than a diet coke!

Good morning. I have to have coffee in the mornings. Decaf of course. I use 2 spenda's and 2 TBSP's of Delight SF Hazelnut liquid creamer. (It only has 2 gms of carbs.) That get's me through my wake up hour. I used to drink decaf, sf pepsi's all day. I haven't really missed them so far. I was banded on Oct. 3 and I want to make sure I do everything right. I am down 24 lbs since my pre op diet. ( I keep going up a down a few lbs, but the doctor said that was normal). I'd rather get into those size 10 jeans that drink a pepsi.

Good luck to everyone, especially the Smashing Pumpkins being banded this up coming week. Just think, next Halloween we won't look like a plump pumpkin, we will be slim zucchini's.

Hey SickNTired--you made it! Yay! I'm sorry you are hungry :tt1:.

I am addicted to McDonald's diet cokes but have been cutting back on them. My surgeon thinks it's okay to drink soda but, from what I've read, I don't think it's a good idea so I'm going to try not to do it. One thing I also LOVE is diet A&W cream soda. I even like it at room-temperature AND when it's been sitting open awhile. I think that will be my fall back as I can leave some in the car and have THAT if the mood strikes me for McD's. I also have found I like the diet lipton green teas and other flavors. Those are also handy to keep in the car.

Oh, and my doc also okayed a tiny bit of SF creamer for my coffee! What a guy! :tongue_smilie:

We'll get through this together!

I am a complete and total diet coke addict! I love it. I have at least one route 44 diet coke a day from sonic. Not to mention several cans. It has been 6 days since I have had any and I know this sounds stupid but I am actually sad about not having it any more! I know I have heard about people morning the loss of food but diet coke? I really want to do good and succeed and lose this weight. I am hoping that it will go away soon especially after I start losing weight! I am also not doing so great with my pre-op diet so I really feel like a loser:sad: Sorry to be so depressing on a Sat.:tongue_smilie:

imamld3--Don't be sorry, I really think it helps to vent and we can ALL understand that! From what some of my friends have told me who ARE banded, carbonated beverages are allowed later in small quantities. So don't feel like you'll never have one again.

My guess would be that you won't want to have a route 44 again though! Our tastes and cravings DO change. Isn't it funny how us "fat" people all crave diet soda? Hmmm. Maybe there is more to the idea that they can actually increase carbohydrate cravings and increase weight??? Just a thought.

You MUST follow your pre-op diet (we want you safe on the 22nd!). Feel free to email me if you want to vent anymore--or feel free to do it here!

Hugs,

Anne

Hey,

It's Janet,

Well surgery is all done and I am back home. My daughter didn't wait to have her baby she had my grandson on the 10th my surgery date was on the 14th. He had to be flown out so we ended up in the same city he was. Find myself very bruised and tired but eveything working out okay so far. Talk again later when feeling better.

Toots2008--It's good to hear from you! Is your grandson a preemie? I hope he's doing well. I am going to be a first time grandma in April--or earlier--as my son's wife has a medical condition that could cause an early delivery. Check in when you are better...

I want to wish all the best to: nazzy; Ruby124; LynnN; Soupamom; taosgal; karook54; GratefulHeart! I know you will all do great and know we are thinking about you and praying for you!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
