We had discussed "smashing pumpkins" because that emcompasses fall and halloween (and all things October), but I don't think we've set it in stone. :w00t:

Are you guys getting food etc together already for post surgery? I hate to wait until the last minute but it seems early. Guess I just want to do something to get ready. I am soooo ready!

I haven't been to nutrition class yet so am not sure of the post op steps, but I have spent a couple of hundred dollars trying different Protein Drinks. The GenSoy I took back as disgusting and stinky!!!!

I have bought the clear fruit flavored Isopures as I know that there is a week of Clear Liquids post op and I know we need Protein to heal.

(this will be my 4th time typing this, let's see if I can actually post this)

I've been putting off buying stuff until I went to the nutritionist, which was today. She brought me a bunch of literature and a card to be able to order off the children's menu. I'm going to go through it tonight and compare it to the lists here and get to shopping.

Just got the call, 10/7/08 for me. My daughter is devestated because it's a day after her birthday. I told her we can Celebrate it early, and she said its not the same . She'll be 13. Maybe that explains ita all.

9/22 I go to the pre-op class...and 9/23 start the liquid diet.

Nice to see theres a few of us here...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
