I was banded on August 19th am forcing myself to take Water (and not doing a good job at it.) I am so afraid to put anything into my mouth. The bloating and gas are intense and have been walking and taking gas-x to relieve some of it. In past 48 hours have only taken in about 16 oz of water - which I know is not enough. Doing a little better toda but was wondering if anyone else had this fear as well. :confused2:

Thanks in advace for your input.

hey hun. i know its hard but you really must try and up your Fluid intake. Sounds like you are getting dehyrated...and when u are, you will feel 10 times worse.

Walking around will help relive some of the gas pains and do you have any Protein shakes? that will help give you a lil energy.

little sips but often is the key.

Hey there.. I was in the same boat.. hang in there!! it will get better soon!.. try sipping on hot tea. I would sip on it constantly.. to the point where my hubby was making fun of the fact that I always needed a top off to make it warm again. I think it really helped with the gas too. it was the only way I could get a lot of liquid in.. I still do that now..

hope it helps..

Go and run to the store and get GAS X melt in the mouth tabs. I had them like candy and they worked along with walking to ease the gas pains. You must drink your Protein drink, that was stressed to me a lot. Then your fluids and warm broth and Jello the first week.

It will get better I swear, starting my 3rd week and feeling just about normal.

Thanks and the information and support are much appreciated. MD was thinking of readmitting me yesterday but after doing the barium swallow again decided that it was not necessary as fluids are passing though the band without difficulty. I guess alot of this is in my head...doing better today but still need to take more. Clear Liquids is all I have even attempted

I am 2 days post op, was banded August 21, I too was having trouble drinking. The gas pains were the worse, and the more I drank it seemed the gas would get worse. First day post op I only took in about 14 oz of Water, I knew I needed to drink more. Here I am post op day 2 feeling a little better. I was able to eat 2 sugar free popicles and a few ounces of my Protein drink. I know it will get better. I must have been pretty swollen around the band because yesterday I could feel every drink I took. Once the gas gets better it is easier. I have no appepite and all I have been doing is sleeping. I hope it does get better this is a rough stage to go through

Vernocia,

We have to believe that it gets better.....today was a little better than yesterday at least I am able to tolerate clear liquids....I just keep reminding myself why I am doing this...for better health am diabetic and have high bloodpressure....this was done to prolong my life. Keep the faith and keep in touch we were done so closely together it will be nice to share the journey. Gail

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
