lap band in your 60's

Recommended Posts

My mom is in her sixties and is going for lapband. Has anyone had this done at that age? If so, did you have much success and were there any probs?

I am 63 and I only wish I had done it sooner. It could not have gone any better.I had almost NO pain. I am 6 weeks out of surgery and I have lost 32 lbs.

I feel so much better. I have gone from 3 shots a day for diabetes and one pill to 1 shot aday and 1/2 of a pill. Waiting for the day when I can throw all that away. I know it will come.

Please don't be afraid of this. Maybe you could go to the support meetings with her. You learn so much there and also from this site.

I will be going for my 2nd fill on Monday. The first one was not even as bad as an insulin shot and those are painless.

I can only speak for myself, but just ask if there is a question and if I can answer it , I will.

Hi,

I am 63 too, and had my band on 16th July. All is absolutely great, but I have to be honest and say that after my first fill next week I am sure it will be easier. As to the surgery, it could not have gone any more smoothly. I had no pain, and as soon as the IV fluids were discontinued I was up and about, raring to go.

If only I had been brave enough to ask for this sooner, but there is no looking back and i am very excited about my whole new life which is just around the corner. My very best wishes for your Mum. She is lucky to have you.

Got mine at age 62....didn't have so much as a gas pain. Came off all diabetes, blood pressure, etc meds within just a few months. I lost 160 lbs in 18 month......BMI went from 62 to 34. I feel better than I've felt in decades!! BUT you have to eat right and use your head along with your band....it doesn't work by itself! I choose to eat by the guidelines that a gastric bypass patient has to eat....it's worked for many people I know.

I am 66 and I got mine on Nov 24, 2008. No pain at all really. I have had no problems at all. I did have a little gas pain. Actually I have not been hungry at all. I start on mushy foods tomorrow. I can hardly wait. I also have not been doing any insulin. I go back on Dec. 4, 2008, and on the 9th I see my regular Dr. So I am really anxious about going.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
