Elfaba_thegood 0 Posted October 6, 2008 The pain wasn't intolerable, but I insisted on Dilaudid and it was wonderful! I went home the next morning. Mostly like a pinch in the side after hard exercise. I had a moderate to large hiatal hernia that they discovered when they got in there and it was repaired also, so I have 5 small incisions instead of the typical 4. I'm not on pain medicine any more and am driving and running errands. Trying not to push it too hard. I will go back to work (as an RN) on October 11th. I think this will be plenty of time. (probably overkill) I am supposed to be on a full liquid diet. 3 Unjury shakes a day ingested over one hour each and one snack a day. I haven't had any issues with the pudding and actually cheated and had some (1/4 cup or so...maybe 4 teaspoons )of grits this morning. It was heavenly. and I kept it down. I hope I'm not destined for failure because I did this. Oh, well, it is certainly less than I was eating last week, that's for sure! MY doc didn't have my do any kind of pre surgery diet at all, except for Clear Liquids the day before. Thanks for touching base! I hope all goes well with your band! LynnN 0 Posted October 6, 2008 Elfaba Glad you're doing so well. My surgeon is not requiring a pre-surgery diet, either. I know I will not be losing much immediately after the band placement, so I'm planning on starting a Liquid Protein diet anyway, just to give me an initial feeling of accomplishment! My surgery will be Oct 20, and I plan on going back to work (as a nurse working 3 12-hour shifts) on Oct 31. I'm a whole bunch older than you, but I'm sure I'll be able to handle it! I'm on my feet for the first 5 hours, but get to do a lot od sitting after that. I'd like to hear how you feel when you go back to work. Good luck, and continue the good work! Elfaba_thegood 0 Posted October 6, 2008 My surgery is on a Tuesday. I plan to go back to my pt sit down job on Friday. Does that seem realistic? i had a hard time attending a play that my daughter was in that lasted a couple of hours on Saturday night. (Surgery Wednesday) I had to leave at intermission. The sitting in the same position became very uncomfortable. However, I had a hiatal hernia repair also, and from what I've read the recovery is more painful. You might consider waiting until Monday if that is an option. Most that I have talked to though, are ready to go back a couple of days post op. Hope this helps. Toosywoots 1 Posted October 6, 2008 Tomorrow I leave for the long drive for the surgery. Wednesday the 8th I have the lap band surgery done. It will be my birthday tomorrow and I will be on clear liquids. Once I get to the hotel near the hospital I have to take the clean out from the two doses of oral saline laxative. No birthday cake and icecream but the gift I m giving myself by having the lap band the next day will be the best ever I hope. I am running around here packing and trying to think of everything I might need. I am so nervous that my back is cramping and giving me problems right now. I went to see my Mother in the nursing home today and she just wanted to hold my hands because she was so nervous about it. I made arrangements with my son to take care of the dog and cat here at home instead of in the kennel. Taped the instructions on what they require to the door for him. I had wanted my house to be in perfect shape but that's not going to happen in what little time I have left. At least all the laundry is done. It has been so long since I have been able to take a walk around even a small store so I hope my heart will be strong enough to survive the 3-4 hours of surgery. I hope the hospital has the proof from my insurance company saying that I have been approved. I have a lot of worries today. I will be 56 years old.
KarenK 0 Posted October 6, 2008 Good luck Betelnut! Hope it goes well and we hear from you soon. Have a safe drive Toosywoots - we'll be waiting to hear from you too. I'm still on for Thursday. Admitting called today and got me all registered, and got some health history. I'm due at the hospital 7:15am on Thursday! Yikes!
Gracey 7 Posted October 6, 2008 (edited) Like what? food. This diet is something by it's self. Just trying to keep up with my Proteins and make sure I eat alot of green veggies. I also found out that I could eat Pork Skins, (if you like them), they have No Carb, No Fat and 9g proteins. Like liquid Tylenol, comfy clothes, pill crusher, Gas-X strips... Good luck to all the bandsters this week. You will all do great! Edited October 6, 2008 by SickNTired
