Hi Dirigo,

Yeahhhhhh! That is excellent news. Not only great for your family but also very encouraging for the rest of us scheduled next for surgery. After all you have been through the last few days, your wife and daughter better pamper you big time when your turn comes. Keep the up-dates coming. Give my regards to your family.

I do not own a scale YET. lol. I dont want to but then I'd like to hehe. I am buying the Wii Fit so that should be helpful. :)

I want a Wii Fit! I guess it includes a scale in the balance board, although I'd like to turn off the part that informs you that you're "morbidly obese" or what have you.:)

Does it really do that? The game tells you that you are "obese" ~ that's horrible! Could you imagine a little kid hearing that! My daughter would flip!

Unfortunately, yes it does. I understand it has you input your height and weighs you and tells you where you fit on the BMI scale. If I buy one, I might just suddenly become 6'4" instead of 5'4". Ok, maybe 7'4"

Thank you Short n' Sassy! They just started doing LapBand at our local hospital. We went to the very first meeting in July, got our apps in the NEXT day and started the process of meetings a week later. My daughter was the 9th patient to be banded here and my wife was number 12. Surgeon had done this at the Leahy Clinic. They now have over 100 on the waiting list. Yesterday was interesting going back and forth between the hospital for my wife and caring for my daughter at home.

My daughter said the surgery was easy and she would definately do it again if she had to. She is the inspiration for my wife and I. She has not had any pain meds since day three and has not complained ONCE!!

Dirigo,

I'm glad they have the surgery behind them and doing so well. I'm a little nervous, but doing okay. I'm ready to get it over with. I have a really good surgeon. He is from Texas and came to Virginia to run the new Bariatric Center at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. From what I understand, he has a tons of experience.

Sounds like you'll be in very capable hands. The countdown starts with one week to go. I will be praying for you next week and pray for the surgery team as well.

Good luck...Vidahlia; NEWLIFE4BEV; mrsrdh; mamac; kdraves; emialiabri; markfarnsworth; Bratty_Nicole on surgery!

I just went to a support group last night for lapband and most people said the worst thing about the surgery is the 2 week liquid diet, after that it's a piece of cake.:)

The WII Fit is actually really cool. It doen't give your weight unless you click on it. It also doesn't say outloud that you are obese. It does give you your BMI and shows a moveable scale of underweight...average...etc. It also gives you your fit age, but it's very dependent on your balance and changes consistently. I do know that you can also LOCK your particular setting with a password so no one else can see it. You can also skip this part every time you do it except for the first time. I am REALLY impressed with the wii. You get a really fun workout and don't even realize it until you are dripping with sweat. The Yoga is awesome and the hula is so fun. :(

I'm really glad to hear that. I will definitely be looking for one. Hopefully they won't be quite as hard to get as they used to be.

Hi! I am scheduled for October 15. I have AETNA and they require a 3-month diet/exercise program and even after that, approval is not a guarantee so I am self-pay now. I am using Credit Care. Is anyone else using it? I was very surprised by how easy it was to get a line of credit with them for this surgery. I didn't believe it at first. After that, things moved quickly. I am on day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet. Doc has me on Optifast. I am hungry!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
