HELP...Sharp Pain in stomach

Recommended Posts

3 weeks post op and woke up this morning with intense sharp pain in stomach. It feels like it is around or near my band. I haven't taken any pain medication throughout this whole process, even after the sugery...and this pain is much stronger.

The pain is strong and I am curious if I should go to the emergency room.

I originally thought it was the way I was laying as I can only lay on my back and tried to lay on my side, but that was not it. I thought it was gas and tried moving around but that made no difference either.

Has anyone else experienced this? Am I freaking out for no reason...please help?

Is it a steady pain? Can you call your surgeon?

I am 8 mths post-op and I started having the same pain last Thursday and OMG it is horrible. I woke up at 4:00 am with the worse pain EVER since I have had the lap band. I called the anserwing service and went straight to the office, when I called they thought that maybe my port have flipped. I got there and he told me that my band was very irriated and that it was all very swollen. He took out half my fill but I am still having the pains??? Now i am soooo confused, I am not sure if it is REALLY bad hungry pains. UGHH I am so discourged and scared, I just do not know.

:tt2: So same thing here, wake up with sharp pains almost like gas pains up near but under the band area.. I use to have acid reflux and am considering to start taking my medication again to see if that helps. Usually getting up and walking around and some PEPTO helps but I want it to stop. Ive stopped eating past 6pm.. I make sure to drink plenty at night to make sure there isnt anything stuck. Dr said to adjust diet and that hasnt helped either, Have you guys found anything that helps..

I was having the same thing at about 3 weeks post-op and found that it went away when I switched from a soy based Protein Drink. I just decided my system couldn't handle that Protein drink and it caused unbearable pain. Don't know why but it went away as soon as I switched.

Can you explain the exact type of pain and where it is? Sharp, dull, stabbing, muscular, nerve, radiating, etc. Is it deep and hig or is it low? I am just curious because I have a sharp pain in my left side like somebody stabbed me and I can't breathe in and now it hurts mainly down by my waistline on the left side.

Have you lifted anything at all lately? Or stretched or bent down?

Sunday night, I lifted something heavy and I guess I'll be paying for it now for the next several weeks. It's so debilitating. I called my doc and maybe you should to. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
