Who are you telling?

Recommended Posts

I have told most of my family and friends by now. The only person I won't tell will be my 91yr grandma. Mind you, she is starting to forget, so she might forget that I told her, but at 91, I say you can do whatever you want!! So far I have only come across one person who has been negative to me, everyone else has watched my weight go up and down with me. Most of my family is overweight, but I will be the first to have WLS. I am pretty sure my family has kept weight watchers and Jenny Craig in business!! I am an open person, so I don't mind sharing. I am just glad my parents are okay with it, my mom is coming with me!:) I am going to Mexico, so it will be a mini vacation for the two of us!!

I have told everyone in my family and expect them to tell everyone else and so on but I've only told two people at work - one is my supervisor is amazing and the other works in another unit and has had the surgery. Everyone else - its just not their business. Especially if they would think it was their job to "help" me. I'm like a little kid - telling me what to do just about guarantees I'll do the opposite.

I have told my husband and my primary care physician. I wish I hadn't told him. (We work together and attend church together too.) I don't plan on telling anyone else. We have a problem...finding someone to watch the kids when we go to Denver to have my surgery. I don't know what we will tell the person that helps us out with that.

I have a big mouth, but every time I think of telling a friend I wonder...what if I the person this doesn't work for????

I have told most of my family and most of my friends. So far, everyone has been very supportive. And, one sister and one cousin, both of who are heavier than me and have more medical problems, are now considering the surgery. My sister's doctor even told her she'd be a good candidate for the surgery when she brought it up last week. I even told my boss, who is my biggest supporter (next to my hubby) since she had gastric bypass a few years ago.

However, I'm not telling my in-laws. They are critical enough about me. Nothing I do is good enough for them and I know it would only bring negative comments.

Good one, Tomato!

It dawned on me today who's going to get on my nerve by being nosy. There's a man in my dept that is SO nosy and for no good reason. I'm seeing a pimp slap in his future!

GALLBLADDER SURGERY!!:frown: GOOD ONE!!:)

I have spazzing-out about all the folks at work who I would probably have to ignore... including my boss who is dead-set against it (she doesn't know why I took the time off).

I am seriously thinking of taking that Gallbladder story and running with it for bit!

I work in an office of three people. I told my boss that I was having a "procedure" done and he's fine with that.

I had hoped to not tell my co-worker but we have an event planned that weekend and I had to make sure that there were plenty of people to help at the event since I won't be there.

I told her (since she outright asked me what I was having done) that I had been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and my surgeon wanted to get it done before he went on a 3 week vacation. Luckily, she has bought the story.

Since I started reducing portions and drinking Protein shakes a couple of months ago, I hope she's not suspicious.

My husband and my PCP office staff are the only ones who know. Not even my kids or mom.

Vid - isn't it amazing how forward people are? I mean, honestly, what business is it of hers?

Hmm, what happened to my signature?!?

Well, we live in a small town and everyone knows everybody else and knows everyone's business. There's only 3 of us in the office and the boss is only in 3 days a week (a consultant) so then it's the two of us.

It can be unbearable at times so I leave and go to one of our remote sites to get away from it. I'm her supervisor and I have to keep having the talk about being professional about business and keeping personal nosiness (why did the customer/employee get a DUI, or go to jail, etc) at home.

Keeping my WLS to myself seemed the best course of action if I didn't want the whole town to know!:thumbup:

I have told everyone. I started a new job 2 weeks ago and at the interview I explained I needed to have 2 weeks off and why. I work in child care and I am NOT going to run around after kids all day while on a liquid-only diet. It was fine. Everyone at work knows and they have all been supportive. Everyone at my last job was as well.

My family all know and support me. My partner knows and supports me. Not one person has said anything negative to me at all.

Friends, parents, inlaws, brother, and boss.

I would tell the people I work with, but I teach and the small town I work in would find out in 5 minutes and I don't want a town of people watching me to see if I lose weight.

so I'm up in the air about this one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
