My doctor is putting all fills on hold...

Recommended Posts

So, I am moving to Oregon on Friday and had found a fill doctor in Portland. Not such an easy thing to do being a patient that was banded in Mexico. Anyway, I got a call from Dr. Eubanks scheduler this afternoon saying that all appts and fills for bariatric patients are on hold indefinitely. I guess that his liability insurance has excluded all bariatric patients so until they figure out what to do, he isn't seeing anyone for fills. I am really bummed. I was really looking forward to my fill. Now I have to find a new doctor. Oh well....this too shall pass.

Heather,

He was my doctor also and I am glad that I saw your post. I was scheduled for a fill on the 22nd and they hadn't called me to let me know that they were canceling. I had prepaid a $100 and I had to call and get them to refund it. It sounds like it is going to be hard to find a new fill Dr. have you had any luck finding a new one yet?

Thanks Kathy

Good luck Heather, it sounds like a few of the gals here will have the same problem.

I saw on one the threads that some of his patients are going to a Dr. Kelly Fitzpatrick, you might check her out.

Something has to give soon. I'm starting my novel-of-a-letter to the FDA this weekend. I'll send a copy every day till something is done. Most of us that had to resort to Mexico for surgery are all in deep doodie right now (the ones that can't find local aftercare.)

I'm in the middle of a nervous breakdown because I don't have a local doctor. I'll never go back to Mexico, and right now I don't even have a port. I consider my Band a lifesaving device that my insurance should cover. I don't even know what I'm trying to say, but something has got to be done for those of us that can't find local care.

Kathy...I found Dr. Kelly Fitzpatrick in Portland. She is a Naturopathic doctor. She does not use fluoro but does have access to it and can order it.

Her website is www.gastricbands.com

Best of luck to you.

I went to her Wednesday, I loved her. She was so awesome we talked for 2 hours. My new fill seems to be working pretty good. Still on liquids but don't have much hunger.

Thanks so much for letting me know about her. I can't wait to see her again.

Kathy

May I recommend my Surgeon? From Portland, he is about 2 1/2 hours away in Tacoma, but, if you have no other option it would be worth your while. So far, I am very satisfied with the care I have recieved. Post-op service is good. I have no complaints.

Dr. Fox and Srikanth at Surgical Weight Loss Center, 253-472-9850.

Good Luck.

-Chunk

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
