Hi Kathy

I am scared to death as well but know I must do this because I have failed every diet I ever tried. My Dr. says it is very safe and easier than when I had my gall bladder out. Have you gone to an imformational meeting in your area? We have one coming up in Keene and I will let you know the date if you want. I went to the first one they held a couple months ago but want to go to this one as well because there will be some people there that have acutally had it done. If you are interested, let me know. I could even meet you there. Don't worry, I am a very nice person, not a psyco or anything! I teach preschool in my town and am a pretty normal person. I only started looking into this a couple months ago and things have been moving along pretty quickly. I just hope my insurance comes back saying they will cover it or at least some of it. I am scared too. I understand your fear. I am 120lbs over weight and 45 years young. I am both excited and nervous. I think that's just normal. What does everyone else think?

Hi Kathy and Oshute too! I guess we are all neighbors. Kathey, I am sooooo proud of you for calling about the meeting. I was lucky to have my husband and daughter with me. You can do it. You will learn so much and will realize that this surgery is not as bad as you may think. Its all for the good. Yes, I am scared too. My inusrance co. called me yesterday and told me all I need to do is pay a $300.00 co-pay and then they will cover 100% of the surgery!! I am in shock. I just have to wait for the predetermination paperwork to go through explaing to them that I need the surgery for medical reasons, not cosmetic. I don't think there will be a problem. My husband meets with the surgeon this Friday to get his surgery date. I still can't believe that the three of us are probably going to have it done. I have learned so much from everyone on the web sight. Oshute has answered some of my questions and has been a big help. (Thanks for being there Oshute on my first day of checking out this web sight!) Take care girlfriends. Kim

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
