Recommended Posts

Hello- I got banded yesterday 8/19 and today I have had 2 episodes of nausea one with dry heaves, is this normal? It happened after I drank chicken broth and the 2nd time with Water, but nothing came up just dry heaves.

Sounds like maybe an esophageal spasm. Were the liquids hot and cold? If so, try something room temp...a little sip (don't drink it , sip it) and see how that does....

Hey, you might want to let your doc's office know you are dry heaving / nauseaous. At this stage, it's extremely important to let the sutures in your band heal up. Most bandsters (that I personally know) are prescribed anti-nausea meds to prevent this sort of thing. At this stage, better safe than sorry.

Theres only 1 thing I can suggest.

Every time, vomiting or dry heaves would happen to me was after I had something to drink/liquids etc and I would then lay down. Big mistake, I learned not to lye down after drinking for atleast 5 minutes otherwise it would happen to me. But it was also a passing phase, I had a huge drink of Water before bed and Im now fine.

The other reason it happened to me was because I took my medication and then went and layed down, (dry heaves again).

Those are the only things I can suggest as to why.

The medication anesthesia can make you sick and nauseas for a few days after surgery. I was also allergic to the whey shakes and switched to Protein Shakes with soy and am entering my third week and am finally feeling really good. Gas X is great for the gas pains. Take care it will get better very soon.

I was severely nauseated for about a week. Every time I stood up I had to throw up. Make sure that you are getting up and walking around even if you feel sick. Because I didn't get up that often(because of the nausea) I ended up with blood clots in my lungs. The only reason I found out about the blood clots is because the nausea was so bad I went into the ER, that's where they found them. If I hadn't went in it would have been fatal.

Omg, I totally understand what you are going through... I was just banded on the Sept 4 and the day i surgery, I had "extreme' nausea... they couldn't give me any more meds b/c they had nothing more to give. They told me to stop drinking the fluids for a little bit and that way, my stomach could relax... it helped... Hope you feel better!

Thanks everyone, I called the surgeons office and they called in some nausea medication, they seemed to think it was from the anethesia (sp?). Told me to drink room temp liquids, and take small sips. It only lasted 1 day, now I'm almost 3 weeks out from surgery and feeling great.
