Training Session: Diet, Exercise, Post-op...

Recommended Posts

I just got back from a 4 hour training session with my Bariatric Nurse, Exercise Physiologist, and Nutritionist. Out of 8 people in the class, I was the only one NOT getting a gastric bypass. I was also the only man in the class. Of course I had different classroom materials with different instructions, timeframes, etc.

I asked about a pre-op diet, and was told that they want me to be on my weight loss diet, but didn't insist on all liquids. They stressed the idea that a "last supper" mentality can cause problems with swollen liver and more waste to pass leading to Constipation. I'm still going to stick to my 2 Protein shakes per day routine and make the best of it.

Getting banded next Tuesday August 26. Only 6 days left.

Yaaaaayyyy...we're band buddies! I'm on the 28th :)

I wasn't put on any kind of pre-op diet, but I've self-imposed a 2 shake-decent dinner regimen on myself. I don't want to have the fat liver thing and have to be split open, you know? I know that folks here have lost LOADS of weight on their pre-op diet, but I'll be happy if I can just maintain. We'll see at the Friday Morning Weigh-In!

Men lose faster (note I did not say "easier"), and you are getting banded instead of bypassed, so no wonder your materials were different. Did they say anything that you hadn't already figured out with your own research? I cannot imagine having to sit through 4 hours of that stuff!

A week from tomorrow!

The only difference was that my post surgical diet won't be just Clear Liquids for 1 week. I can go straight into Protein shakes on the day of the surgery and maintain that for 2 weeks.

I was also on my weight loss diet before surgery and it went really well. I had to do Clear Liquids the day before surgery. It wasn't too bad and I lost 20 lbs!

Good luck with the surgery!

No Lanakila, a WEEK from TODAY! :smile2:

And just six days for you!!!! Can you believe that we are FINALLY getting our turn? We've watched all of our band buddies with a tinge of jealousy and now we get to dance our way into surgery knowing that so many of them have gone before us and will take care of us

I think it is smart to stick with your 2 Protein Shakes. My Dr had me on a full liquid diet for a week before surgery and I know it made it easier for me after surgery already being used to the Protein shakes.< /p>

Best of luck with your surgery! :(

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
