I live in Beaufort, SC.

I'm a 46 year old Workaholic.

I am in good health for someone my size.

My doctor said I have been blessed up to now, but he would like to see me lose 200 pounds before my 'luck' runs out. He said he didn't care how I did it - JUST DO IT!

I have been giving some serious thought to getting the Lapband Surgery, however; I have not yet made a commitment to do it.

I am trying to look at all the pros and cons.

I am VERY afraid of any type of surgery (I hate to be put under) so the thought of doing this really frightens me!

I also fear the 'horror' stories I've heard of "worst case scenarios” and all that could go wrong. I saw something just the other night on TV that scared me to death.

So here I am - looking for information and I would appreciate any in-put from anyone willing to share, to help me make a final decision on this matter.

Thank you.

Songbird. Welcome to LBT.

The first step that I took was getting on the web and doing a lot of research. There are also a lot of great books available to help educate you. You'll need to weigh the pros and cons. Although LB surgery is one of the safestest weight loss surgeries available, it still involves risks.

Also, find out some of the Bariatric Surgeons in your area and go to some seminars. The doctors can give you a lot of information and also answer any specific questions you may have. These can range from the surgery itself to insurance and cost. It'll also give you a chance to observe and see if you will like the doctor you choose. Many from there choose to schedule a consult appointment (which is what I did).

You've made a good start in coming to this forum. There is a lot of information available on here, both good and bad. There are some horror stories out there. All surgeries come with risks and there can be complications. It is best to know what you are facing and what you are up against. Ask questions, browse and read. Many people post blogs as well.

WLS is a big decision. I too didn't have any co-morbalities. I had my surgery in April and it is the best decision I have ever made for myself. It has completely changed my life for the better. I'll be honest - it isn't always easy. There are days that I struggle. It isn't a miracle cure. You will have to work at it if you get banded. The first few months are tough for most. Saying that - I'd do it all over again.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
