Well everyone, I am now banded. I had my surgery on the 18th (AUG), stayed overnight and come back home on the 19th. I have to tell you the truth though, on the way to the hospital up until they gave me some happy juice on the way to the OR, I was about to back out of having it done. Yeah, my nerves got the best of me. Thank goodness for the happy juice.

I am home recovering pretty well. I am still a little bit swollen, I am still in alot of pain, (my hubby says that where the pain is, is where the port is). It hurts to get up, it hurts to sit down, it hurts to move. He says that I have to move around or it wont get any better. So can someone please tell me how long it was before you stopped hurting so bad where your port is?

Actually, I was banded on the 18th as well and I don't hurt where my port is, I hurt on the other side. I don't know about you but I am feeling better every day. Good luck!

I was banded on the 18th too. I have the most pain when getting in and out of bed or in and out of a chair. I am feeling SO much better today though!

I think most of my pain is around my port. My scars are NASTY though! :)

Hey I got banded on the 18th too, stayed over night which glad I did.....they helped give me some pain meds. I too and having some pain when getting up and down specially from the toilet as its a little bit lower than the one in the hospital. I think most of my pain and soreness is coming from the PCA pump which is glued to the middle of my chest. I also have started to have some pain in my legs.....talked to my pcp and he doesn't think its a clot as it wouldn't be in both legs. I just feel as my muscles in the back of my legs are tight as hell. Good luck to you all and keep us posted!

wow there sure is alot of 18th bandsters out there. I had no idea. I just woke up from a nap and it took me all of 5 minutes to get up from the bed cause of the pain. If its not any better by tomorrow, I'm calling the doctor and see what i can find out. To the woman that was talking about her legs hurting, it may just be muscle cramps from the surgery. They will work themselves out. Just walk as much as you can without overdoing it, and warmth helps it alot. Good luck to everyone!!

I was banded on 8/5 and it took me about a week and a half to get over the soreness at the port area. You have to remember that they cut through some serious muscles there and that is why it hurts so bad. It is still sore this week I noticed while I was washing my hair in the bathtub and then sat up - still really tender. The swelling in your stomach has some to do with it too I think. The pain will start to subside. I promise. This past weekend was my first day to feel somewhat back to normal. Good luck to everyone.

So I posted earlier that I hurt on the opposite side of my port but I think I am wrong. He told me where he would put the port but I can feel the tubing and the port where I hurt so I think something changed in surgery.

As for the leg pain, I had it too, in my calves. It worked itself out quickly with a little walking.

The port area was the most painful for me too, especially getting in/out of the hospital bed. I think it was around Day 5 when I finally made it through a day without taking any pain meds. Hope your pain goes away fast!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
