Finding Friends and Support

Recommended Posts

Hi Ya'll - I've been banded since Dec. 04 - and have been looking for a support group. Just found you all and am really inspired to continue on this trip. My weight loss has been slower than I thought it would be. Maybe because I am older and with RA am unable to exercise like I should. You've been a big help - and I hope to see many of you on the 25th. Think name tags would help? Would love to meet someone else from the Austin area.

Charlie hang tuff you will loose the weight, it took me 3yrs two bands to lose all my weight and i still would like to loose another 10lbs but i've gone for a year w/out a fill and that is a wonderful feeling. the weight came off so slow for the first two years and then last year it just fell off of me. I didn't excersice or follow everything that i should've (which was a mistake) but i feel great at 150 instead of my 296 so hang in there, this is lap band surgery not gastric bypass so the weight goes off slower but should stay off longer.

I'm new to the list. How do y'all get those cute things at the bottom of your posts to show your weight loss?

I'll be having my surgery this summer in the Houston area (Dr. Spivak)

Thanks,

Colleen

Hi Angiebell, Dr. Powell did my surgery on 6/7. He has not mentioned a fill yet (I know, it's not quite 2 weeks! he he) but I see you had your first fill in just a few days over a month - you think this is his schedule? Sure hope so!

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
