I went to Monterrey and had Dr. Sanchez - he came highly recommended and since I'm a nurse, I was skeptical at first. I did a lot of research and wouldn't have done differently. If you want to stay in the US = find Dr. Fred Maese in Dallas at the Preston Cardiology Center. He is Dr. Sanchez nephew and does my fills. He will do it for the same price as Dr. Sanchez. Either way - DO IT....it's the best thing I've done for myself.

I too went to mexico about 3years ago and had my band, It slipped and i had it re done in Texas by Dr. Richard Benivides who use to work with Dr. Fred Maese, Dr. Maese is amazing he helps all patients and does fills for the same price. i have been with him for 3years now and have lost all my weight except for 10lbs i started out at 296 and was 138 and am now about 150 and very happy except for a few small problems on the way, it has been great.

Dr, Maese also has an office in Ferris which willbe closer to you than Dallas. I can't find the # right now but it is listed under cardiology because he is actually a cardiologist, I am going to be using him for my fills after my surgeon releases me. Dr. Maese is WONDERFUL!!! He is VERY busy though so do not be offended if you feel like he is not taking a lot of time with you, If you voice your concerns he will actually stop what ever he is doing to talke to you untill he is blue in the face.

He has given me a hug each time I have been there and last time, right after I hadmy stress test done he said he ws very excited for me and gave me a big hug and peck on the cheek and told me everything would work out great and he would be there to help get me nice and healthy!!

He concerned about us being healthy, not just looking good. Go see him he is a ture god-send!!!

I was banded by Dr. Smith in 2003. He had the band himself and when I went in cause I wasn't losing anymore he figured it out and I am now approaching goal. He was at UNT and that was not so great but he went out on his own and I love his new office. Most of the people that work there are banded. Ask for Susee, she is the RN and Banded.

Where is Dr. Smith? I'm also a Sooner in Austin, Texas and have great fun with all my OU stuff. Sounds as if you're doing well. Please let me know.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
