Hi Nancy, I was banded on November 11th 2007. I've only lost 30 pounds myself. A real slow go for me too. But it is what we signed up for. To lose the weight slowly - unlike the gastric bypass folks who lose very quickly.

I do know exactly what you feel like with the food coming back up into your throat. You have to keep swallowing to keep it down.

When you are laying down at night do you have reflux come up then too? I had that also. That was a little scary really - it woke me up from a sound sleep - kinda choking on the acid. It burned the back of my throat too. I went to the doctor two days later. He said that I was probably too full. I had 7cc's in a 10cc band. He took out 1/2 cc and I am fine now.

Maybe you should call your doc and get in sooner?

Good luck with the replacement of your band. Maybe you could ask about the 10cc AP band? Seems like it might give a little more flexibility?

Dianne

Nancy.

I am so sorry to hear about your difficulties! So frustrating! I agree that maybe you should look into having a bigger band replace the small one while having the port replaced. Talk to the Dr. It would make a big difference! I have restriction. I have a 10cc band and about 6cc in now (with two fills) My stomach feels full when I have ate enough. If I push it, which I do sometimes because I have only had my band 6 weeks and trying to learn new habits, I feel like the food is backing up and I have to stop. My Dr told me this is how we train ourselves to know when we have had enough. It is a learning process. I hope things work out well for you! Please let us know what the Dr says about maybe needing a little bigger band to work with. I don't know for sure, but I don't think that they even use 4cc bands anymore. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I got a 4 cc band in May 2008. I have had one fill of 1.4cc and am definitely restricted. It is a learning process. Your doctor will have the best answers.

I too have a 4cc band inserted May 7, 2008. Got a fill yesterday bringing me to 3.5cc. I think this may be my sweet spot. It's hard to tell just yet-on liquids for 24 hrs.

Good luck to you..............the other poster was correct, there is definately a learning curve for all of us.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Fluffycat. They do still use 4cc bands.

Interesting! Glad you are doing well. Yes, It is a learning experience!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
