hey! sorry if this is a supid question. i'm 6 days post op and i'm almost pain free. i check out my incisions a few times a day to see how things are going and if the dermabond is still holding up. um when i touch my incisions the only one that hurts is where my port is. i know the obvious answer is "well don't touch your port incision and then it won't hurt" but it hurts randomly sometimes too. is this normal? dose the port area take a little longer to heal under the skin? i'm assuming so but i just wanted to know if i was normal and stuff. again, sorry if this is stupid:blushing:. ok. thanks. bye!

I think that's normal. I have 6 holes. 5 of them are practically healed. The biggest one down closer to my waistline hurts the most and pulls when I get up. The funny thing is that I have no idea where my port is??? I don't know if that big one is the incision or not because when I got home, there was a strange metal button snap pad under my left breast off to the side. I wondered if this was the location of the port? Does the port location require stitches on the outside or just the inside? So see. Don't feel stupid. My questions are weird too, which I hope to get answered when I see the surgeon on Wednesday.

Vegas I would wonder if the metal snap button you are talking about could be a stick on pad from some type of monitor. When I had my EKG done I found a round patch with a metal snap on it under my left breast when I got home. My port is just below the largest incision about an inch.

You know, you could be right! I would think that before I left, they would have told me about it. But most likely, they forget to take it off. And that's exactly where it was on me. So, my port site should be around that biggest incision then. I just can't feel it at all. See, Trish, that should make you feel better already. LOL!

Yeah, your port should be around the largest incision, usually somewhere around your belly button/waisteline. My port incision is right above my belly button, the actual port is about 1 1/2 inches above and to the right of the incision.

The port incision pain was the most painful and takes the most time to heal. It took a good two weeks before the pain was really improved for me but it did get better every day. The pain here is worse because of course, number one, the incision is larger. But also, the port is sewn to your abdominal muscles where there are plenty of nerves.

Just wanted to add that I am 7 days out and my port area is sore still. My port is about 3 fingertips under the bottom middle of my breast bone.

The round things with the metal are for the monitors. I had 3 left in various places they missed.

It is perfectly normal at 6 days out.

I think I had some variety of pain near the port (nothing significant or related to possible infection) for the first two weeks or so. I also got occasional twinges. It went away and then started up again once I started abdominal exercises.

It is normal and is just taking a little time to heal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
