I am Mary, from Jacksonville, Florida. I knew about this forum for a long time, and now wish I had taken part earlier. I was banded on July 1, and had my first fill on August 8. For a while I had a lot of nausea, even on liquids, but that is gone. I went back to work maybe too soon, a week after surgery, and had a persistent pain across my mid back, right under the shoulder blades. Anyone have that problem? I also had an area that wouldn't heal at the upper center of the abdomen, and it kept being rubbed by my (ladies, you know where!) It turns out there was a little stitch, and once he took that out, it has healed. I am finally feeling really good, and looking forward to the whole process. I had lost 9 pounds on his scale from the day of surgery. Now I have lost 5 more. My biggest problem is that at night, I seem to be hungry and able to eat more than I should, so I am trying to focus on eating the right things, and not resorting to old habits. Right now, I can eat most things, even salad, if I chew it well. Reading a few of the posts, I see that it may take a few fills before I get the adjustment just right. If there is anyone in or around Jacksonville, who would like to be a band buddy, I would love to connect. I am truly happy I did this. Mary:biggrin2:

Great to have you on board, Mary. You're totally correct....it takes most people a little while to get good restriction (but a lucky few have some restriction from day 1. Until you do get good restriction, keep doing what you're doing: Eat healthy foods, watch your portions, and get some exercise. Eventually the band will help you out a lot more. Some people call the phase you're in right now "bandster hell". Don't worry, it will get better. Sounds like you are on the road to success!!

Hi Mary, welcome to LBT! I am from Jacksonville as well, the Mandarin area. Looks like we are in for some dicey weather the next couple of days. The mayor just announced schools will be closed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
