I was banded on August 6th and I have only lost 9 lbs. I lost those 9 lbs. four days after my surgery. What is going on? I am starting to get upset. What am I doing wrong? Plus, I still can't tell when I am full. Please, I need advice. Did anyone have this problem?

Its totally normal ! don't panic. The time between your surgery and first couple of fills are really REALLY hard. Don't get discouraged because I also lost weight right away after surgery (from the liquid phase) Then i didn't drop a single lb for 3-4 weeks until i got a fill.

ALSO, i didn't lose much right away after that because I didn't have any restriction until my FOURTH FILL !

be prepared,, hang in there ! ITs a SLOW, but rewarding journey.

Hi I do love cops too. Everyone seems to have this same problem. Its okay, it takes 6 weeks for the body to heal and many people don't lose any weight or they might even gain weight during this healing time. In fact if you read lap-band fills forum many people don't lose weight until their 3rd fill. One of my favorite posters LuLuc, said it took 5 months and 7 fills to lose weight. You will lose weight too when you find your perfect fill spot. Don't lose hope, just hang out here and read the sticky post under the lap-band fill and you will begin to understand how it all works. We all understrand your worry and frustration and we are all rooting for your success. I was banded June 23rd and have not lost ANY weight. I have had one fill and am scheduled for another fill Aug. 20. I can't wait but I am trying not to become that crazy bandster that the doctor's office hates. I guess some bandsters get crazy when or if they don't lose a ton of weight immediately and I for one don't want to add to that stereotype.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I feel a little better. The doctor never mentioned anything about this, plus I read over and over about how much these people have lost and it just gets me depressed because I am hardly eating and starving to death with no weight loss. Thank you again for the advice. I think I will go have another bowl of ice cream...LOL Just kidding.

Keep your chin up! Starving could be a reason why you are not losing weight. Stick to the food plan the doctor should have given you for post op and you should be on your way in no time. Remember you should have just been on liquid prior to your surgery and you will eating solid food soon and this always makes a person a little heavier because you aren't 'flushing' your system anymore.

Good luck and hang in there.

Been banded two weeks, I ended up weighting 224 when was done with the banding, the first few days, I was a bit upset, because I weighted myself on Monday before Thursdays' surgery at 211. I am now down to 205.5 So I am happy, keeping on the diet schedule. First fill will be in September. Not doing anything except walking till they tell me I can ride my bike again. Getting plenty or rest and Water. Feeling good for the first time today.

take care

It will come off everyone is different. Best of luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
