Port/Doctor question

Recommended Posts

After you see the doctor for your 2 week follow-up after surgery do you ever see your doctor again or do you just see the PA who does the fills? I just went in for my first fill after 6 weeks post-op and it occurred to me that since he isn't really needed for the fills, then do you ever consult with him again? The reason I am wondering if I should make a separate appointment with him is that my port after 7 weeks post-op is still sticking up like a goose egg and I want to have it fixed before the scar heals so that I don't have to go through a whole new scar healing process - has anyone had their port moved lower in the body so it doesn't stick up or have had it moved to another location and if so, how long is the process, expensive, is anesthesia necessary and is it out-patient, etc. Thanks!

Call your surgeon's office. Each office is different!

I see my surgeon for my 2 week post op appointment next Monday. He has assured me that he does all the fills himself.

I have not seen my surgeon since he discharged me from the hospital. I saw his assistant (another surgeon) for follow up and I see the PA for fills. I was told only if something is wrong do I see the surgeon......which is fine with me..the PA spends as much time as I need with me and answers all of my questions.

My surgeon himself follows all his patients for at least 5 years after surgery. He does his own fills as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
