:confused2:Hello everyone! I have been reading on Lap-Band talk for a coulpe of weeks now just getting all the info. I can get on lap-band. I will be taking my nutritional class on August 20, 2008 and my surgury is August 22, 2008. So I have just a few days left. My question is, I have read alot about people having to lose some much weight before their surgury and my doctor has not told me nothing about that. Does everyone have to do this? I dont wont to show up Friday and they say well you have not lost a percentage of your weight.....if you know what I mean. Please help!

not everyone's diet is the same before surgery. Some people don't have to diet, some are on low fat diets others are on all liquid diets. I think it all depends on your surgeon. If he wanted you to be a special diet ahead of time I am sure he would have told you. Consider yourself lucky! :-)

they want you to shrink your liver. My Dr. had me do low carb for the week before. Some Dr.s have their patients do liquid diet. Call your Dr. and ask what he recomends. You don't want to go in and wake up to find out that you couldn't have surgery because your liver is to fatty. Good luck

Call your docs office today and ask. How long have u been working with them for? Have u been trying to lose weight? From my understanding most insurances want you to lose weight before hand and you need to lose some weight before to shrink your liver so the surgery is easier to do. Depending on the size of ur liver depends how much they open you up.

But... not every doc is the same and that goes for insurance as well im sure. If you dont know... call that doc up. Ur paying him to do his job... this is part of it. Best of luck!

The nutritionist who works with my doctor told me up front that I had to lose 5% of my weight and gave me a low carb diet to follow. I also had to sign a contract with the doctor stating that I had to lose that amount pre-op or the surgery would be cancelled. The doctor wanted to make sure that you shrink your liver before surgery because it is safer for you. In fact, I started a clear liquid diet a couple of days before hand because I wanted to be extra sure that I had shrunk it.

Call your doctor and see what he says.

I have been going to this doctor since November. I have been through all the testing that the insurance has you to do. I go to the doctor Wed. for my preop visit. Thanks for your help.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
