Banded August 1 in Mobile AL

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My name is Cathy and I live in Mississippi between Mobile AL, and Biloxi MS, I was banded on August 1, in Mobile by Dr. Hannon. I am so happy that I had the surgery done. I feel great, I have so much more energy, I wish I would have asked about having the band a long time ago. I'm 43 soon to be 44. I was afraid to tell anyone I was having the surgery but since I have i've had nothing but support and encouragement. I've lost 14 pounds so far, my goal is 150. My pre-surgery weight was 280. It's just so great not to be hungry all the time to not obess over food what to eat, when to eat and so on. Thanks for inviting me and I look foward to hearing from all of you.

OMG!!! Last was the 1st bad time I have had with the band, of course it was my fault. I was starving last night and my husband got home late so I waited for him. By the time he got home I was so hungry I measured out my food (spaghetti) and cut it up into small pieces and them I proceeded to wolf it down, I forgot to eat slowly. Anyway it was painful and I have learned my lesson. From now on fork on table after each bite, I might even set a timer so I don't forget and eat to fast. Has anyone had this problem and how did you solve it.

Thanks,

Cathy:smile:

ps: who do you get the counter for your weight loss?

Great tip to put your fork down on the table between each bit. I will have to remember that. I'm a fast eater. Always have been. I'm sure I will learn the hard way soon.

To create a ticker Roheryn put together a great thread with step by step directions. Leave it to an August Allstar to help you out. Here is a link to her earlier thread.

Hi, Cindy,

What time was your surgery we probably saw each other in the waiting room or after. I have my first fill on the 28th. I have been eating some solid food but not a lot. I tried spaghetti the other night and i guess I ate too fast because I had a lot of pain under my breastbone and some nausea. Mashed potatoes are good. Well good luck. Hope to hear from you.

Hi Cathy, nice to "meet" someone local. My surgery was at 1030. got there at 8. Was sooo nervous. You're lucky your first fill is soon. I don't go back to the dr until the 9th of Sept and am actually starting to get hungry. Not sure if its head hunger but finding myself wanting more after my 4 oz. Lost 7 lbs pre-op and 16 the first 2 weeks. Now the scale hasn't moved since last Thursday and really frustrated!

Cindy,

I have been eating some regular food just very small portions, I was tired of liquids, if you are hungry you really should eat something solid. If you let yourself get too hungry you will either drink too many liquids or eat too much. I'm still loosing weight even with adding solid foods in, not much around 3 to 4 pounds a week which I feel is good. I expect the weight loss to take about 2 years but I would rather loose it slowly and not gain it back

Good Luck,

Cathy

Thanks for the advice, Cathy. I graduated to soft scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes for the last couple of days and can really tell a difference. I know its going to be slow but the first 2 weeks the weight came off fast and I got excited. lol. I am learning to be patient and know a year from now I will feel much better. If you would like to email me directly its bcjl@mchsi.com

Have a great night

Well, I'm glad that you have started with some soft foods, since my first fill is this week I will be back on the soft foods for awhile. I am actually excited that I will be able to eat less food, I never thought I would be happy about that. I love the fact that I am just not hungry mostly when I eat is because I am expected to eat you know Breakfast, lunch and dinner but not because I am hungry. so I am trying to get out of that habit and only eat when I am hungry. I also plan on taking an evening walk starting on monday all my incesions have healed so I am ready to start walking. I don't know how much you want to loose but if I can loose around 130 pounds and get to 150 or 160 I will be thrilled to death. I have never been skinny, I'll be happy to shop in the misses section of wal-mart.

take care, u can email me at steveandcathyt@msn.com

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
