I have a question about whether it is absolutely necessary to recover at home:confused2: I'm scheduled for surgery in 6 weeks and would like to recover after the 1st couple of days at my camper (fully contained) about 2 hours from home (it's so peaceful there). I would have a friend with me to help with lifting, etc. Has anyone done this? I have read many entries from people who have gone shopping, and walking, etc. the next day without any apparent problems. I have never had any problems with recovery from surgery before. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I had my surgery on monday and was surprised as to how painful it was. I also read those entries that people said they were fine the next day and only needed one dose of medication. I am 25 with no other health issues than being obese. I was in pain and in and out of sleep due to my pain medicine that i took as often as i could. I would not rely on anyone's personal experience because you never know how you will react. I am not saying that you can't get through this in your camper but just don't assume your recovery will be best case senarion. I don't mean this post to scare you but just so that you are aware everyone's post op experience wasn't so easy and pain free.

Good luck

I think your best bet is to ask your surgeon. I'm one who has recovered VERY quickly but the other poster is right; that's just anecdotal.

Your surgeon will know best what his patients can/can't do.

Your surgeon may prefer that you remain in town and close in case of post op complications. Mine requires that we remain in the city for a week post op....

Hi Simon, I had my surgery last October and I also live full time in my motorhome... I went straight from the hospital to my motorhome and my husband helped me with all of my pain meds, getting up and down, etc... I'm not sure that you will feel like getting up and doing much the first 2 or 3 days, so you will need someone there to help you... I slept in the recliner the first few days as it was easier than trying to roll around in bed... So, those are the few things you may want to keep in mind if you want to spend some time in your camper... Whatever you do, you do not want to be there alone, you will need someone there to help out...

Congratulations on your surgery and starting your new journey...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
