re: post op 8 months

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery in December 07. Since then I have had 3 fills. The first okay, the second too tight, ended up in the ER...and then a re-fill on that one. Since that time, I throw up quite a bit during eating. I am able to tolerate Soups, and mushy stuff pretty well, but when faced with chicken, etc..that requires grinding really well, that is a problem in swallowing. My doctor is in Iraq right now, will not return until November and I do not trust anyone at the hospital I go too besides him. I am concerned that my esophagus might be constricted...any advice?

Risha

I would call because they have to have someone that is seeing his patients... Your health is more important so u don't want to ignore things like that...

If you can tolerate Soups and mushy stuff and you don't want to see any other doctor, can you just eat Soup and mushy stuff until your doctor returns? I have read many threads here that throwing up will cause pouch enlargement and band slippage so you really need to avoid anything that causes you to throw up.

I would try another doctor. You are risking your health. Your doctor would not want that and must have given his patients another one to consult with. I would unfill a bit maybe .3 to .5cc. Nothing is worth risking your overall health.

Ditto what other said, there's someone to see you. Call ASAP. November is too long to wait.

Slow down on your eating and cut your food into 1/4 inch pcs. and chew at least 20 times before swallowing. I had this problem at one time. I guess by now you have got this one figured out. older post.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
