Today, Tomorrow, and the rest of my life

Recommended Posts

Well, tomorrow is my surgery date and I'm really looking forward to it. Sure, I still have some butterflies but I know this is normal. I got up this morning and went to Church, come home, straightened up bedroom, packed my stuff, went and got groceries, and now I am sitting here on the computer typing down my thoughts hoping someone will take the time to sit back and read this. I'm sure alot of you will be reading this actually. I made up my mind last week that tonight I am having a big Steak, Baked Potato, salad, with a Coke to drink. For dessert, I am having a slice on Peach Cobbler. My Aunt calls it "my last REAL meal". lol

Tomorrow morning, I have to be up at 6:00 to get all the kids ready for

for school and down to the bus stop. After they get on the bus, my husband and I are leaving for our 2 hour drive to Knoxville, TN. I'm sure by the time we hit the interstate, my stomach will be full of huge butterflies. I have to be at the hospital at 10:00 a.m. and I guess they will take me to the OR around 11:30 or so, I'm not sure.

My son ask me today how skinny I would be when I got back home. He is only 7. I had to explain to him that it would take time for me to lose the weight, and he says, OH, I thought you lost it instantly. LOL, I couldn't help but to laugh at it.

I know that everything will be fine during and after the porcedure. I have a wonderful surgeon, (I have been told he is one of the best in the Country), and he has a wonderful staff working with him. But to be honest, I'm not looking forward to having to have only liquids for 2-4 weeks, or however long it will be. But, it is part of what makes the band work and part of my way to becoming a better and happier Stacy. So, I will take it with a smile on my face and liquids in my belly. lol

For everyone out there who is waiting to be banded, I wish you the best of luck and lots of weight loss. For those of you who have already had it done, I wish you the best of luck also and I hope you find all that you have looked for with your band.

Good luck tomorrow!! I was banded last week on Monday and you will be fine. I was nervous on the days leading up to surgery and on the day of the surgery, I wasn't nervous at all. It will all go by soo fast. Just make sure to take it easy and always have a nice pillow by your side to help with the port soreness. Keep us posted!:mad2:

Well congratulations on tomorrow, it will truly be "the first day of the rest of your new, healthy life." Nerves are so normal, but once you get in that hospital, the nurses are so awesome and put those nerves to rest, and then they give you the "good drugs" and you wake up and it's done. One good thing about post surgery and liquids is that your tummy is swollen, you will feel no hunger, you won't care about eating at all for at least the first week. My doctor let us have puddings, jello's and Protein Drinks (which really curb hunger) and before you know it, its time for mushies and you are chewing again. There are 2 awesome things about this surgery....one is the lack of hunger, the other is seeing the scale move down instead of up or staying the same, that makes all the liquids in the world worth it! I am (as you will be) on my way to a healthier weight and so glad I took this personal journey. Good luck to you tomorrow you will be absolutely fine. FYI---I was banded on July 27th and have lost over 15 lbs since surgery day. What a wonderful tool I now have! :thumbup:Again, good luck tomorrow....

Good Luck tomorrow,

I too am getting banded this week, August 21st is the big date, everyone keeps asking me if I am nervous, I tell them no. I guess being a nurse I am very aware of what is going to happen during surgery. Although this is the first surgery I have ever had in my 32 years LOL. I had to take this week off of work just to prepare my self for what I know I have to do after surgery. I went to the local health store yesterday to buy some Protein shake so I could see which one I like and can tolerate drinking. To my amazement they were not as bad as I thought they would taste. I drank one this morning with my coffee and they really do curb my appetite, so that had made me feel much better about my success with my band. I have been on this computer all week reading post and trying to mentally prepare myself for what is in store for me. I am getting excited to start a new part of my life. I am also very anxious and really just want Thursday to come. So wish me luck and I enjoy reading everyone's experiences on these posts.

believe me you will be nervous until the minute you go under. and even when you wake up you migh feel like you can't believe what you just did. But those are all normal feeling. I just got banded on Aug 11th and i felt all those things. But i can say it is pretty easy to keep to the all liquids diet. I'm really not that hungry and when i do get hungry i get a Protein shake and that feels me up. Good luck and my words of advice are to take your pain pills whenever you can. They will make recovery much much better. Also plan on sleeping in a non laying down posistion for at least 5-7 days.

Agian GOOD LUCK! i know you will be just fine!!! :mad2:

Good Luck to all of you that are going to be banded tomorrow and the near future. It is a GRRRRRRREAT tool!!! I would suggest it to anyone who asks. I was banded on May 19th and have lost 47 lbs. Just remember that you need to walk...walk....walk after surgery because you will be filled with gas from the surgery. I used GasX for the gas when it became unbearable but after a week it all subsides. Just stick to the plan and you too will be a LOSER!!!....LOL. God Bless Everyone!!!

I was banded this past friday, 8/15. I have to say, it was a positive experience. I am getting up fine and walking very well. Not hungry and even able to watch food network without the desire to eat! I am so motivated and you will be too! Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
