Hi I am new to all of this! I have battled my weight my whole life. I have lost weight gained it lost it again i am just so tired of this!!! Through my years of dealing with my weight I decided to go back to school and get a degree in nutrition (it's so much fun to be a chubby dietitian) so as you can imagine I no what to do to lose weight I just have such a hard time doing it. If someone told me that there was a magic pill I would take it!! So what I want to know is this worth it! Does it work? I know the science behind it all, but does it really work! I work at one of the local hosptials and the surgeons are having an info meeting this week and I just wonder if I should go. I have not talked about this with anyone in my life (my husband, sisters, friends etc) I feel like my god if I can't lose the weight who can. Sorry to have rambled I just would really like some help thanks for you time. Angela

I would go to the meeting! When you go you will get information about the band, how it works and they usually have patients there that will tell their story and you can ask them questions. I was like you, I knew what to do to lose weight, it just didn't work for me.

You will find lots of info on this site. You will find that there are people that have huge success and those that struggle with the band. It is a decision that you have to weigh. I went with the band, because I knew I needed a tool to help me get the weight off. I am just banded so I can't tell you what this will look like long term, but so far so good!

The band isn't a magic pill, it is put in place to help you learn to live a new healthier lifestyle. You have to work at losing the weight and making sure you are eating the right foods and exercising. If you are ready to make that commitment to yourself, then the band may be right for you!

I encourage you to investigate and find out if this is something that can help you!

i was banded by Dr. Curry in Cincinnati, Ohio. his registered dietician was overweight and got banded by him. she lost 100% of the weight she wanted and looks great! when i met with her, i didn't believe that she was ever overweight but she keeps a before picture of herself on her board.

i know she would love to help you if she could. let me know if you'd like her email address!

Thanks so much for writing back. That is so good to hear, I feel like some clients would rather talk to me about weight because they know that I can understand, but the stigma that goes with it is sometimes miserable, but at times i feel like I give myself the hardest time about my weight. Oh I would love to have her email address thanks so much, and are you happy you did it. Also your BMI was not over 40 so did you have so other risk factor because mine is just under 40. I don't know anyone that has had it done so I would love some feedback thanks again Angela

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
