restriction..either too much or none

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my first time posting. I'm having a bit of a prob right now. I was banded Sept 07 and I have had a bit of a prob with fills. Either its too tight or too loose. I have never found a happy middle and I'm a bit confused about it. My last 2 fills my Dr. has giving me were a half of a cc each and they were ok until something got stuck one day about a month ago and then I couldn't really hold things down well. I would even would choke on Water in the mornings sometimes. Then the horrible acid reflux started. I know I should have called my Dr. after I noticed the prob but I just thought my stomach was irritated from the bad choking spell I had before. Anyways, I called him about 2 weeks after it all started and he was scared I had a slippage so he took my last 2 fills out (1 cc) and said to call him the following day if I had anymore probs...well the choking and the acid went away completely...but so did the restriction..It's been 2 weeks and i feel like im starving so I'm at a loss ..its either risk damaging my stomach or have no resection..I only have 2.5 cc's in my band....this cant be right ..

any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks,

B

Hang In There! You have to baby your band right now and that is what is best for your future...this is just temporary! I would try to see my band under fluoroscopy with a barium swallow to completely evaluate the band. If everything looks good, I would get a fill and CHEW CHEW CHEW....SLOW DOWN. Don't get anything else stuck! We all have a warning/close call then we remember we have to SLOW DOWN & CHEW!

Good Luck! You will start loosing again after you know your band is OK

1cc makes a HUGE difference to the amount of restriction that you have. Sometimes it can be as little as 0.1cc that sorts you out. I would say bear with it and build up the fills gradually in 0.2cc jumps, that way you wont overshoot your sweet spot!

Wish I could help, but my experience has been similar. I never felt anything like restriction/fullness/satisfaction. I went from feeling nothing to a horrible choking sensation on the first bite (or even first sip of water). If I sip something warm to ease the nausea and choking, I'm back to no restriction.. My "sturgeon" is no help -- he has us see a PA who doesn't "believe" in this problem. Have you had any good advice or help? I don't know how to follow threads or reply to the peiple who answer me -- and I sure need some help! Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
