Okay. . .so I'm new to this. . . I had my surgery about a month and a half ago and I've lost 16 pounds!!! I'm really excited about that but I feel like I am not eating as healthy as I should. I was wondering if anyone had advice about their eating habits. Does anyone follow Weight Watchers, South Beach. . .what works the best. . I want to be as healthy as possible and kick my weight loss into high gear!!!

Thanks!!!!

The best thing to do is to follow the guidelines that your surgeon gave you for post-op eating.

My surgeon's office recommends Protein, produce, and whole grains and two cups LF milk a day for Calcium.

For me, Breakfast is usually a NF latte, a couple hours later, I have a very high Fiber Cereal with berries. lunch and dinner are 3-4oz lean Protein (chicken, fish, lean beef or occassionally beans/tofu option) and 1/2 cup produce. Usually some Water takes care of any late afternoon hunger.

Congratulations on the weight loss! You're off to a great start!

I tend to stick to dryer foods when I really want to work with my band - think cajun spiced skinless chicken breast with a few veggies. Chew really slowly and well, I spend ages cutting mine up and making the perfect mouthful (dont ask) and mostly listen to your body. Mine will sends me distinct signals when I am getting full, I get a slight feeling of pressure in my chest area and that is the 'back off' signal.

Another good food for a quick bite is a ryvita (dont know if you get them in the US) crispbread with mashed up poached/tinned salmon on it. Again chew well and take your time!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
