My name is Janie. I registered with the formum over a year ago, but I have never posted. I had my band placed October 9, 2007. I did well at first, then things happeded, and my world began to weigh on me more than usual. I have had several fills, and I still throw up at times. I don't eat near the amount I did eat before my surgery, but I am reverting back to the habits of comfort foods for some time now. I've lost 40 lbs. total, but I wanted to be down much more by now.

I'm embarrassed and ashamed of myself, so I find it difficult to admit my failure. If I did not have a counselor to see, I don't know what I would do. I am trying to get back on track, and start back with regular exercise. I find myself saying what I did before my surgery, "I'll do better tomorrow".

I could really use some encouragement and insight.

Embarrassed, Janie:embaressed_smile:

hi Janie, I was banded 4/07 and can feel your pain and embaressment. I have only lost 10 lbs because I make the worst food choices and I, like you, say tomorrow I will do better. I can't give up and neither can you. We must try really hard to follow the band guide lines and i hear that it really will work. I am going in for anadjustment next week and once again I will try again. We can do this!!! Let's 'band' together and get skinny!

If I had lost 40 lbs. EVER in my whole life I would be thrilled! You have done a great job so far, even if it isn't what you imagined. Go to the grocery store and try to pick up 4 10lb. bags of potatoes. You have knocked that much weight off of your frame. And studies have shown that one lb. of weight loss = 4 lbs. of pressure off of your knees. You have reduced the strain on your knees by 160 lbs! That is something to be proud of, and now that yo are back on track, your accomplishments will be even greater.

The weight didnt appear on your body overnight, so it wont disappear overnight either. Remember, up your Protein to take your body out of starvation mode (thats when it wants to hold onto its weight) and step up the exercise or vary it as your body gets used the same old, same old! Good luck and keep your chin up!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
