height x weight = dress size?

Recommended Posts

Hi Laurigee, Congrats on your progress! you are the same height as me and I am reaching for 165! I say it's all about how you feel and no matter what other people say. If 7 more lb's would make you feel the best then go for it!!! I set myslef a goal of 165 but if I still feel like I need to lose a couple i will. Being too thin sure would be a change from being too fat nobody every commented then did they.

Good luck!

The size thing is crazy.

When I was 16 I weighed 155 and wore a size 16. I was squishy.

I now wear a 14 at 178, but my muscles are lean. There's still some fat on me and apparently a bunch of weight in skin.

I don't know how much of it is changes in the clothing manufacturing industry or changes in ones body as she changes but size is pretty realative to weight and body composition.

I know looking for ball park figures is useful for goal setting...just putting out my experiences.

Im almost 5 7 and small boned. I got to about 150 lbs last time and a size 12. So many weight more and are shorter and in smaller sizes. I know it makes a difference if you are big or small boned.

My goal is a 8/10 on top and a 10 on the bottom where I used to be. Im more hippy than Im wide shouldered, so Im never going to be the same size top and bottom.

Im 190 now and having trouble zipping up a size 18 jean dress

When everyone is talking about sizes though, are we all talking about "normal" sizes? I think my body style/shape is just whacked out disproportionate! You would think that after having lost 60 pounds, I'd be happy to go buy new clothes . . . but figuring it all out is a NIGHTMARE! Lane Bryant 14s fit me very, very easily . . . so I'm afraid to buy more because I'm losing so fast and they are getting loose. Lane Bryant shirts are pretty much all too big.

But, when it comes to "regular" 14s (outside of Lane Bryant), some fit and some don't. Some 16s fit and some don't, for that matter. For instance, in Bandolinos and Sevens, I wear a 14 no problem -- the 16s are too big. But in other brands, I can BARELY button the 14s.

Then again, most XL shirts fit me . . . some Larges fit me . . . but then there are some XL shirts that are way too tight.

The clothing sizes seem to have no standard and now that I am exploring places beyond Lane Bryant, I am shy. Like, am I supposed to be shopping in here? Will these clothes fit me?

So far I've only braved Nordstrom, Macys, and New York & Co., but I don't even really know where else to shop. Weird!

My BMI is just below yours, but I dont fit into any size large clothes yet, or size 14s of any brand. I had gotten to where I could not buy very much from any clothes store when I got my lap band (I was buying online). .... in fact to be honest Im not into all my size XL shirts yet, a few are too tight. Im obviously much larger than others at the same weight.

If you are in size larges and some 14s, you are doing much better than I am. I have a cruise on the QM2 which will be very dressy and I have no clothes to wear. This will be the end of next June/early July next summer. Sure is hard to buy for a weight I'm not at. I have a large credit at paypal I want to spend on ebay, just hard to know what to buy or what size and part of me is very frustrated that I will not yet be at goal, so the clothes wouldnt fit very long. I hope to be in a size 12 by next summer in designer sizes (which run larger than regular sizes).

You are doing good if you are in some regular sizes now. That's so important to most of us. ... just to be able to go into a regular store and buy things off the rack.

I'm 5'7" and currently 172. I'm in a size 10. I did a little bit of unofficial research (haha...google) and it seems the change in size seems to be every 10-15 lbs. So, woohoo...by 160 I MIGHT be an 8??

Been up and down so I remember my sizes/lbs. (hoping to get there again. Was 5'9" (now closer to 5'8"), but I have really long legs (thanks for the Penny's pants tip!). Everyone's different-I'm a "pear". Size 12 for me was about 160/170, Size 10 was 140/150.

I have vowed not to buy anything that is not absolutely necessary in the way of clothes until I get closer to goal. I have another 30 lbs & hopefully enough "extra" sizes in my closet to get me close.

No . . . not better. We just all have very different shapes. I'm 5'7", so that has something to do with it. I also have a very athletic build -- and muscles are dense weight. I just wish my muscles didn't bulk up so fast. I have to really vary my workouts to keep from getting bulky.

Jachut and Carramia...I think that everyone started to panic as soon as they seen hip bones and my neck and shoulders thin out, and my stomach suck in instead of sticking out. I was anorexic for 10+ years in my teens. When I got married I had a miscarriage and was told that if I ever wanted children my lifestyle would have to change, through alot of thearapy 1 year later I had my first son. After that I turned to compulsive overeating. No one said anything about that, it was like it was better than the opposite. To me I woke up and realized it didn't matter if I died from not eating or overeating, dead is dead. Through thearapy again, I have got a grip on what a healthy lifestyle consists of and feel I have a great handle on it. I just have them people from my past that start to worry as soon as they see a bone. They think I don't know when to stop. I love exercise, I love food, but what everyone doesn't realize is I love life the most. No one sees me grow as a person they just see the old me. To bad our society see's the old, fat, non-active me, more normal than the healthy me. Their problem, not mine. I won't be sucked back! This is me, and I Love the new me, for once in my life!

I carry all my weight in my middle - I have thin legs (well for my size, lol) and average arms. I always have felt I wear larger sizes then other people at my height / weight because of my stomach. I started 239, 5'4 at a size 22/24, and now I'm at 195 size 18/20 (getting loose!) I've read that when you wear the larger sizes (over 20) , it takes 20-30 pounds to move down, but after that, its about 10-15. I weighed 145 about 5 years ago and was a size 10 .

Does anyone else notice that with having a bigger middle and smaller legs/bottom that your pants are always sliding off of you like a slope? I'm blessed with this! Even if they fit decently, they're coming off! I just bought size 18 jeans two weeks ago, and I wore them yesterday - big mistake! They fit okay when I first put them on out of the dryer, but a few hours later at the grocery store, I had to hold them up with one hand and push the cart with the other. LOL. They need to be too tight so once they loosen a little, they'll fit. Or I could just remember to put a damn belt on. Haha.

:smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
