Ladies, Did You Get To Wear Your "Skivies" During Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Well, it arrived today so I'll definitely have it for my surgery. Guess I'll bring a pad, a tampon and my diva cup and see if they'll let me use any of it. How embarrassing! Uggh.

LOVE me my Diva cup. Let me know if they tell you that it's ok. I didn't ask the surgeon because I didn't want to have to explain what it was :wink2:

Glad to know someone else knows what it is! I had to explain it to my PCM last month! I LOVE that thing and can't believe I didn't know about it sooner. I read about it on another website a few months ago and have been a fan since the day I purchased it. I wish I'd known about it 20 years ago.

Ok, if you don't know what it is you can go to www.divacup.com and check it out. Oh, and if you want to order one, which lanakila and I think you should here's the cheapest place I've ever found one:

DIVA CUP - $15.49 SHIPPED

Go to:

Enter this code: DOS357 for $5 off after you enter your credit card info.

wow! the things you learn on this website. i'd never heard of that beforel. luckily i'm on depo-provera so no periods!

as for the question that prompted the thread...i had to remove both. at least you were just all patients. i work where i had surgery. and i work in our IT department so that means going to nursing floors to fix computers, printers, phones etc. so lucky me...those who saw me naked, see me fixing their computer. LOL but honestly everyone is truly a professional and they were nothing but kind and concerned with getting me better. in fact i just went up to fix a pc that wouldn't turn on and get a laptop to connect to our wireless and almost all of the nurses stopped to ask how i was doing.

I had to remove both as I did for my gallbladder sugery too. Both times I had my period. When I got to my room, I had my husband help me to get a bra back on-I can't go too long with out that, I'm a 36DD. And I also put on regular clothes because I don't like feeling wound up with like two gowns on to cover everything, what's the point. I was more comfortable in sweat capri's and a tee walking around the floor like we were supposed to.

So how did you "deal" with the period if you had to remove everything?

I was without but they were kind enough that when having to walk around they provided an extra gown as a robe, but when i got to my room after surgery and i got up on went some jammie pants that i rolled down away from my inscions and i ran around in a gown and those...with my little IV doggy all over my floor...thank god for me no aunt flow, and before i rolled into the OR i was already dosed by my drug doctor...so i didn't really care...lol:tt2:

I was allowed to keep on the panties - no bra. I agree that there is nothing to be shy about. You will not be exposed any more than you have to be. Sterile drapes and everything but incision areas well covered. Don't forget - these people have to undergo surgery sometimes too and I'm sure they stick to a strict professsional code regarding exposure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
