blueeyes19761 0 Posted August 16, 2008 Congradulation to all. I am new at this and due to be banded on August 21st. I have BCBS FEDERAL and was approved in one week. :thumbup:I do have a concern. I read all these threads that people had to be on a liquid diets. My doctor did not put me on a pre-op diet. Is this normal? :confused2:
lafrogura 0 Posted August 16, 2008 I have seen many people say that they did not have a pre-op diet. I know more people have to be on one than don't. All surgeons are different. I think it has more to do with how much you have to lose. I know for us super obese we have much more fat on our livers that has to be shrunk down prior to surgery (the reason for the pre-op diet) ... did you ask your doc about a pre-op diet? Jennywren93 0 Posted August 17, 2008 I got my paperwork, and my dr's pre-op diet is 1 week of 2 meals liquid, dinner is a lean cuisine type thing, with Water and chicken broth, etc in between, then the week before is all liquid. 20 g Protein for each liquid meal. he even has me back to eating by week 2 post op! Each dr is different, but to be safe, why not give his office a call and ask?
themis 0 Posted August 17, 2008 You should have probably gotten some sort of pre-op diet. You might want to check. Each doctor is different. Mine is a low-carb/low fat diet. He told me I could have the surgery in a week, I mentioned the diet and he said 14 days is great, but 1 week of this diet was fine. They WILL know if you do the diet or not. The day I was at the office my doc mentioned his patient didn't follow the diet at all, because his liver was huge. It makes it more difficult for the doctor when your liver hasn't shrunk at all. Did you have a nutrition consultation? She's the one that gave me the low down on the diet for pre-op.
