Question reagrading PB'ing

Recommended Posts

I was banded on April 29 and so far have had no trouble with foods that I've tried. I haven't ever had a PB and I'm wondering why I haven't? Sounds like it's very normal and now I'm wondering why it hasn't happened to me. Does this generally only happen you start getting fills? I'm scheduled for my first fill on June 9. I just keep worrying that I'm doing something wrong and since I have never experienced the dreaded PB. That might sound silly but I just hope I'm doing this right. Thanks for any help you might give me.

Well, I've been banded since mid March, and just got my first fill. No BPs here either.

You can eat everything because you are wide open because you've not had a fill.

Don't worry, and I think you are doing things EXACTLY right.

Becky - I have never had a PB either, and don't want to! You have PB's if you don't chew your food good enough, eat too fast, or are too tight. You are doing fine!

Good! I'm glad to know this. I was feeling like the Lone Ranger. I chew so slow that honestly sometimes I just get tired of eating and quit or else my food gets cold and that does it for me. But if that keeps the PS's away, so be it. It's always so nice to know how other people are doing so you can get an idea of how it's supposed to be. Thanks!

If you can avoid PBing that is best. I have heard of people having to get all the saline removed and or having the band removed due to excessive PBING. Especially in the first 6 weeks after band surgery. The band is not in place and PBing can cause migration of the band or slippage. You may not experience any episodes of PBing until you have saline added to your band! PBing is always a sign that you have done something wrong(eaten too fast or eaten the wrong thing)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
