Starting new job, but want lap band surgery!

Recommended Posts

So i have a small problem. I'm starting a new job this Monday (the 18th) and I'm really really excited about it. However, I want get the ball rolling when my health insurance kicks in October 1st with going to a consult for my band, appointments etc..

Do you guys think it's a good idea if I let my manager know of my plans into detail? I'm thinking at least one appointment I'm going to need to extend my lunch break on. (I'm going to go to my primary doctor during my one hour lunch break and it may be longer. Not to mention the fact that I'm going to have to at least take 5 days off for my surgery week. I'm thinking that I'm going to include the weekend as 2 of those days so I only have to take off 3 days.

So I'm just worried if I should postpone my surgery plans till after the new year or should I just tell this job how I feel. I will be working for an ob/gyn clinic as a receptionist.

Give me your thoughts!!

Help!

be upfront with your manager and see if you can't work something out. If not then postpone it for a little while. Good luck. Hopefully you won't have to postpone it.

Well first off, you didnt say what type of insurance. Im assuming you know it will be covered. my husbands insurance and my company insurance is with the same insurance company, his plan covers the procedures by my company didnt include it in their plan. Luckily I am covered under his. Most insurance companies require some type of diet plan first anywhere from 3-6 months. I started my process in September of 2007, by the time we followed the insurance guidelines and completed all the required tests. I was banded finally in April 2008. I would just let your employer know for now that you have a doctors appt and that is it. Advise her it was planned before she offered you the jobs. Then after your insurance kicks in and you get all the details on how they work it, then go from there. My surgeon only does the operations on certain days of the week. Mine was done on a Monday. You kinda work around the doctors schedule and the insurance company. I have lost a total of 76lbs. Good luck on your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
