New job starting but want lap band.. question!!

Recommended Posts

So i have a small problem. I'm starting a new job this Monday (the 18th) and I'm really really excited about it. However, I want get the ball rolling when my health insurance kicks in October 1st with going to a consult for my band, appointments etc..

Do you guys think it's a good idea if I let my manager know of my plans. I'm thinking at least one appointment I'm going to need to extend my lunch break on. (I'm going to go to my primary doctor during my one hour lunch break and it may be longer. Not to mention the fact that I'm going to have to at least take 5 days off for my surgery week. I'm thinking that I'm going to include the weekend as 2 of those days so I only have to take off 3 days.

So I'm just worried if I should postpone my surgery plans till after the new year or should I just tell this job how I feel. I will be working for an ob/gyn clinic as a receptionist.

Give me your thoughts!!

Help!

:)

It's probably not going to happen until next year anyways, so I wouldn't sweat it too much as far as telling your employers what you are doing. My time line started last October with the informational meeting, then you have to do some stuff as far as documenting weight loss etc, and write all that down with the help of your PCP, once that was done, they schedule appts with the nutritionist (my first on was in Dec.) If your ins. is like many others, you have to loose weight first before they approve you, some even make you wait 6 months....there was 3 appts with the nutritionist (one a month) then I waited for approval, a bunch of other tests (some even have to go through sleep studiesto check for sleep apnea) and finally I got an appt. with the Dr. in May with surgery being scheduled in July! He was booking 6 weeks out! Some don't take this long, but some take longer. If I were you I wouldn't say anything until you see them first and get their timeline on things. Good luck in your journey, and with you new job:regular_smile:

I agree... do not mention anything to your employer yet. Chicks3 gave you some good advice. Be sure to start with your PCP first and have their support through the whole thing.

I am an employer myself and if some one told me about this right after they started working for me, I would question their loyalty to the business and that could make an uncomfortable work atmosphere for you.

You have no idea IF they will cover your surgery or when... so definitely don't mention it until the time gets closer... and things are confirmed.

Good luck with the new job AND the surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
