Gadget - I'm going to have to look this up to clarify. $10 says I say this wrong!! I love learning!

I love learning, too. I've recently been thinking after my kids go off to college, I might go back to graduate school.

Most people say this one wrong, but it still drives me nuts. It's LESS if you're referring to a quantity or unit of one, and FEWER if you're referring to a quantity greater than one. So something will have FEWER calories but LESS fat. It will take FEWER than 7 days but LESS than a week.

The other one that everyone gets wrong and is EASY to figure out is the I/me thing. Just take out the other person you're referring to. He and (I/me) went to the park. I went to the park. Therefore he and I went to the park. The clerk gave the change to him and (I/me). The clerk gave the change to me. Therefore, the clerk gave the change to him and me.

Bad grammar is a pet peeve of mine as well. It's very difficult for me to live where I do and listen to people speak.

I am glad April deleted the posts that were offensive. I think this thread should remain open. People should be able to voice their opinions without insulting one another. After all, we are all adults here.

Unbelieveable.....unsubscribing to my own thread.

Except it make it hard to follow or understand why SickNTired is so upset.

Clearly, some people don't understand the written word. Calling someone "fat" on here is unbelievable.

I think I missed something...someone called someone fat? How mean.

You're right she was being ugly to you and I don't even remember what it was all about but a pre-op calling someone "fat" is the dumbest thing I think I've ever seen here and I've seen a lot!

Sorry SNT. There will always be some butthole trying to drag you down...(or maybe I'm the only one that has that particular Freudian nightmare?)

Here's another one that makes me nuts, but it's in speech, not writing. "2008" is "two thousand eight", not "two thousand and eight". 192 is "one hundred ninety-two", not "one hundred and ninety-two". "And", numerically, indicates a decimal point, as in 192.6 ("one hundred ninety-two and six tenths").

I do admit that those types of errors do drive me crazy as well however I guess I get used to stuff like that from chatting online with my best friend through Instant Messenger. She is incredibly smart however, she is also dyslexic so typo's and spelling mistakes are a given with her.

Although I love the convenience and ease of IM and texting, I think it encourages people to misspell, to the point where our youth will lose touch entirely with what proper spelling and grammar are. I can't believe it when I get business emails with "u" instead of "you" and "enuf" instead of "enough" and "i" instead of "I" (I could go on ad naseum). I understand it in a personal context, but in a business email? It's scary to think of where we will be in 20 years.

I'm a numbers nerd for a living so I say "one hundred ninety-two DOT six"!!!

Another one I thought of this morning was "she is the older of two siblings" or "he is the oldest of 3" (or more).

I would normally say, "one hundred ninety-two point six", but the reason I said "and six-tenths" is because the ONLY place "and" is correct in a number is at the decimal point.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
