Today is my first fill

Recommended Posts

Im excited cause I was banded 4/27 and can basicly eat anything as long as I chew which I had trouble doing but am learning.Anyway I hope this causes some restriction since Ive only lost 16 pounds and all that was done in the first 10 days.

Few questions....does it hurt?am I not supposed to eat beforehand?will i know immediately if fill "took"?

My fills have not hurt. Everyone is different though.

As far as eating prior to your fill, every Dr. has a different set of rules. Mines requires no food 4 hours before a fill but liquids are OK. My first fill took about a week to kick in, the other two were instant! Again everyone is different.

Good Luck, let us know how it went

I had my first fill on Thursday and it didn't hurt. I'm a big baby, and it was only a couple of pokes. She filled me, then made me drink some Water. Then she took some out. Of course, she didn't take out enough... So I have to go in for an unfill...

Oh, and she was very good, she never let me see the needle. Not once.

Glad you got a fill without any problems. Just take it easy and chew things up really good. You never know when that fill will kick in and cause you to get that stuck feeling. Watch out for bread/ dry meats/ ect.. Hope you start losing some weight with the fill.

alatina, you are in TX, right? Did you go to TJ for a fill? Who filled you? Do you have the 9.75/4cc band? Sorry for the ??'s, just trying to compare me to you!

Glad it went well. I scheduled my first fill today with a NC doc. No problems, except that I have to wait until July 6th! Hello!!! Anyhow, glad it went well. Kuri seems to do consistently good work on banding. I love it.

I was banded in tijuana-I have a 10 Inamed and I got my fill here in Houston for $200-I am not about to go to Tijuana for fills-the flight and such would be way more than $200 plus you still have to pay the $70 they say they are free but they arent-you have to pay lab fee or whatever it is-he explains this to you when I had the consulatation right b4 surgery.

It's time for a fill. I scheduled one today, but it's not until July 6th. wowza! I have the 9.75/4cc band...wow, they put 2.5 in a 4cc band? Wonder what I'll end up with?

Our stats are so similar, check 'em out! Except I was banded, what, 19? days before you? So, how is ONEderland? I can't wait to get below 200. That will be a milestone for me!

Keep us posted on how your fill is working for ya. I'm interested in knowing what the differences are in your eating abilities after your fill.

Thanks!

OH Yeah! Fill costs for Kuri are NOT free!!! Okay, so he charges no fee, but airfare, transportation (I heard $50 one way to and from the airport through Kuri's office if you want that scheduled) or you can pay your own taxi, whatever. They suggested getting together with someone to share the $50 fees. Plus hotel if you have to stay overnight due to flight schedules, and food/spending. Then the $70 lab fee for the flouro. Adds up!

I love Kuri, and would gladly go there for fills but just can't afford it, not when the guy up the road is $200 (non-flouro).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
