Hey guys and gals, it's Stacy again. Ok, incase you have forgotten, I am being banded this coming Monday in Knoxville. I need to know something. OK, after my surgery I know for like 2 weeks, I have to be on a clear liquid diet. My problem is, I was looking at some notes from my nutrition class and somewhere I saw something about milk. Can I have milk as a Fluid? Also, I need some ideas of other things I can use to get my carbs and Protein in. I know there are the Protein Shakes and sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles. But is there anything else I can (I guess drink). It just seems that its the same things and I am afraid I will end up getting tired of the same things every day.

I'm so glad I have found this site. It's alot easier going on the internet and asking these questions than calling the doctors office and worring that they are going to get aggravated with all the questions I have.

Special K makes a Protein Water that is clear. My doc says no Protein Shakes until you move on past clears for a few days.

We don't have that Special K protien Water here in Canada, but I did get some other brand of mixed protien water at Walmart. My Dr. allows skim milk and protien shakes on day two, but since I will be flying to Mississauga, ON and won't be home until day three then I plan to start having them at that time. I also picked up protien ready made drinks from GNC and they were approved for immediately after the surgery by my dietitian. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
