kathw46 0 Posted August 15, 2008 Hi, I am currently undergoing the evaluation process for bariatric surgery at TuftsNEMC in Boston, MA. I want to have the lap-band done but the doctors and exercise physiologist keep pushing the Roux-NY-gastric bipass and I am totally confused now!!! My primary care physician recommended the lapband because I have fibromyalgia and it is the least invasive procedure. HELP.
1byfaith 0 Posted August 15, 2008 (edited) My surgeon was/is very pro RNY too but I knew, after a lot of research, that the band was best for me. In fact, he questions my choice at each visit. His rationale is that RNY patients are happier therefore he is happier. I guess instant gratification. Obviously, the RNY will result in rapid weight loss in a shorter amount of time. All I can say is, if you dont want the RNY, then dont give in to the pressure from any clinician. Regardless of which surgery you select, make sure you are fully informed about the pros and cons of each procedure. Was there a particular reason why they want you to have the RNY over the band? Good Luck! Edited August 15, 2008 by 1byfaith
zukagirl22 1 Posted August 15, 2008 i would maybe go get a second opinion from another bariatric doctor. also let your pcp know and see what he has to say. i know this might llow things down but there is going back from a rouen xy (sp?) Good luck and remember it's up to you will be the one living with this not the doctor.
