Can you still have soda's after being banded?

Recommended Posts

I was told absolutely no carbonated beverages ever. As a Diet Pepsi junkie, this has been the hardest thing to let go of. I won't be banded until the 28th, but I've gone ahead and given this up now. I don't want to put myself through major surgery to just go and stretch my pouch and ruin the entire purpose for the band. I was also told no caffeine...but there seems to be no hard and fast rule on that one when I read the boards.

I haven't been banded yet either, but I started on Crystal Light, and it's AWESOME!! I used to have a coke a day..which even for me every now and then again I like to have. But there are so many varieties in the Crystal Light, I feel like I am drinking healthier anyway.

My doctor said none for 2 months after you get your band.

I'm not a big drinker of pop.....but I have drank Diet Coke and other diet drinks from time to time since I've got my band with no problems, maybe just a little gas pressure from drinking it to fast but no big deal.

Good Luck!

Hey as far as the soda goes i was just banded 8/12. while my eating habits have deffinatly changed my dr said it was ok to have some soda or even cabonated beverages you may just get gassy - which i have pleanty of wish i could let out a big belch ( how ladylike ) the soda merely travels thru your band just like Water dosnt stretch out the band or your pouch i think you just need to see what is best for you - i am also enjoying water crystal light and ice tea caffeine doesnt bother me either. I think with gastric bypass there are alot more restrictions however i believe the diet soda is ok, within reason

being banded is uncomfortable at first but i am learning to live with my new self. I am so glad i did it !!!!

I was told absolutely no carbonated drinks also, but I can have caffine. There is a type of Crystal Light that has caffine in it, and I love those. I was addicted to soda before I got banded too, but I gave them up before my surgery and I really haven't missed them.

Hi Susie. My doctor told me that it was OK to have soda's. But he said to drink Coke Zero or Sprite Zero. He also said to pour it over ice first and let it sit for afew minutes to let the fizz settle. Haven't had any problems so far. Good Luck

You what's really good? Try mixing one lemon crystal light package with one fruit punch package, add twice the amount of Water. It tastes so good. In fact, I am enjoying a glass now!!

I was asking the same question myself. I was told that anything with carbonation is a BIG NO NO. I even ask if I shook it up to make it go flat if I could drink it and still a big no no. Try the G2 from Gatorade. I tried it for the first time tonight (fruit punch flavored), I love it. Maybe you will too.

They say you shouldn't because it can expand the stomach. I will have an occasional sip here and there but I've done really well to stay away from it. My new addiction is crystal light. They say you can have that. Good luck. Kim T.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
